I understand that we should give old people some credit for their hard work, but this professor's way of teaching is so outdated. He's a very tough grader I even lost points for spelling his name wrong on a paper. If you skip class you won't pass, if you fall even a little behind on your reading (there's a lot of reading) you won't pass.

This professor is very misunderstood in my opinion. He is definitely conservative and is fairly critical of people who disagree with him on fundamental issues. His insights are very interesting, and he is funny if you really listen to some of his comments, but I can say that he is a very tough grader. Very kind, wise man though, give him a chance

Stauder is an awful professor he is very biased and even though on his tests you may have the right answer if it is not to his liking it is flat out wrong. Do NOT take this guy whatever you do he will make you fail.

Seems like cute adorable old man but he is actually very conservative and ignorant. How did they let such a biased person teach college kids sociology of all subjects. He generalizes ethnic groups and so forth. He subliminally shoves his very conservative views down your throat. If you are a person of color do not take this class.

Professor is a kind person. He is nice however his teaching style is mundane and repetitive. His teaching style is outdated and the professor can be insulting, generalizing students. He is often out of touch with mainstream media and the American Youth. He assumes we are all uneducated and ignorant of worldly affairs.

Avoid this professor at all costs. I am a senior taking SOC101 as an elective and it sucks. Had to buy 5 books, we're quizzed on Mondays and Wednesdays about 4-5 chapters of the book and it is impossible to read that much over the weekend if you have 4 other classes and a job. If he even sees your phone, he'll confiscate it.

2 question quizzes on the reading assigned for the week every class and videos relating to the topic on Thursdays. Readings range from 50-115 ish pages per week and a written assignment on them are due every Tuesday. If you participate and do the readings you'll pass. He really enjoys teaching and subjects interesting. No study guide for final

all he does is lectures you on difficult readings and gives you quizs that are very hard, it is based on a scale. don't recommend this class.

Never ever take his courses. Even though I got an A in his course, it was the hardest class I've taken. He's extremely boring and all you do is read and take quizzes. In my opinion he should be fired a long time ago. Definitely the worst professor at UMD.

I wish I had never taken this class. There are 5-6 books you are quizzed every class and totally quizzes are 60% of your grade. I took this as an easy elective and am now probably going to fail. If you don't need this class skip it totally not worth it. Impossible to take notes and no real structure. Waste of time and money.

He is by far the worse professor I have ever had. For a 100 level class the reading is crazy, I had to buy 5 or 6 books just for his class. There is a quiz at the beginning of each class, they are only worth 6 points each but are worth 60% of your grade. This class is not worth the time, his "make-up" policy is ridiculous. Don't take this class.

The amount of Reading for this class is ridiculous for a 100 level course. I would highly not recommend this professor. There is a quiz every class. This class took up a lot of my free time. I don't recommend taking him. I'm not the only one with this opinion.

This class is super boring. There's a lot of reading involved and everyday there is a quiz on the reading. If you do badly on the quizzes you're screwed because they're 60% of your grade. We're only 2 months in and I have a 53 quiz average because I just can't keep up. He's also very biased. His opinion is the right opinion always. Stay far away.

Easy A w/ skimming books & going to class. Large scale on tests Unfortunately, this guy is VERY biased. He is nice and lets everyone speak but his opinion is the correct answer. Welearned why global warming is false, abortions are bad etc. & watched a lot of John Stossel. It's great that college classes can challenge your beliefs but this too much

If you are truly interested in the field his teachings & the books are really interesting. Teaches the other viewpoints and explanations you wouldn't otherwise hear and it makes sense! (not biased, he's teaching!)2.5 hour class with discussion, break, then film. Grading is scaled & simple. Do the reading and the class is easy. You have to read.

Do not take! He is awful, 7 books for a 100 level class, he expects you to read about 200 pages for each class..quiz every week. VERY BIASED. the tests and quizzes are all based on his opinion not the readings. I'm a junior who took his class as an elective and i struggled
