Mr. Dearing can be the nicest man ever - always trying to improve you, as a musician, and teach you new things. He has the tendency, however, to belittle you without realizing it. His temper turns rather quickly, but usually, he's pretty easy to get along with. He knows a lot about the stuff he's instructing and is always ready to help you out.

Dearing comes off as a nice guy, but I attended every class, went to the required concerts, wrote the report and did everything required and still only got a C in his class. His lectures aren't mandatory, since he posts power points, but that still doesn't matter. One tip, if you need only one music class, don't take Dearing.

I think Dearing is a great guy. He is highly approachable and shows great interest in the subject. The lectures were a bit boring, but if you attend most of the classes, concerts and study the quiz/test reviews that he posts on webct, this class shouldn't be a problem.

This man is hilarious. His dirty jokes are notorious, and we love him for it. Actually a great singer, but a bit clumsy sometimes. He will expect you to go to class, though, which is what you're paying for in the first place, so don't get your panties in a bunch.

Not the best director, but enjoyable nonetheless. I enjoy the choirs and he has given me many opportunities. Agree with the bad piano, but when you can't get a student, what choice do you have? People that don't like him are the immature ones that can't sing and shouldn't be there. Overall, a great guy.

I love this man! As a director he is incredible. He has a true passion for directing which he shows through his choruses. He is really cool and a nice guy. Is willing to help when you need him....I have to agree with the brewskis and bad piano playing lol thats why we have a student to plays for us at practice

THIS is the music history class you want to take. There's 1 paper you have to write (20 pages ;)) and a couple of group projects. LOTS OF NOTES! And the tests take some getting used to, but if you're here in the summer take this class. You'll be glad you did.

I like to stomp on the anacrusis. His voice can permeate the entire room of singers and it does frequently. Never was a favorite; just used me for what he could get out of me musically...some piano playing once in a while for rehearsal while other people played the concert. Real women don't have vibrato?? Never put women in the right section.

Just listen to the choruses, and you'll know that he doesn't require from his choruses. Nothing (meaning consonants and intonation) is together and everything is emotionally flat. He picks good music sometimes, and that makes it ok, i guess.

Decent director, horrible pianist. He teaches things way to fast on the piano, both for him and the ensemble. Funny guy tho. I used to enjoy this choir, but is slowly going down the drain. Maybe he shouldnt pick so many "bad eggs" in the better groups.

He is not a good conductor. He finds a piece of music that people enjoy, and then he wants you to perform it at ever single event. He trys to tell jokes, that are so NOT funny, you're just angry after wards. Definately has fav's... and they're not necessarily that good. May ruin your love of music..
