Dr. Newman was my professor in the summer of 1972 and again in the spring of 1977. He taught me a love of demography that I carry with me to this day. I think anyone would be lucky to have him for a teacher. Kate Larkin (SU graduating class of 1977);currently in Albuquerque, NM.

He does not reflect effort in his grading. I had a 3.9 GPA and I will probably get a B in this class because I didn't write what he said I should write about. There's no place for you to have your own opinion in this class. He doesn't believe in thesis statements either.If you have him make sure you ask him what he wants you to write about first

Really nice professor. Actually cares how you're doing in the class. Will meet with you at pretty much anytime. Grades on effort, not necessarily how great your writing is. If you show him you care, he'll reflect that in your grade. Really fair prof.

At first he seemed like he was going to be boring but as time wore on I realized exactly how helpful he was to have for this class. He really cares about the students and does whatever he can to help, and he knows a lot about the subject matter. He's a great guy and a good teacher.

awesome professor. knows so much about everything. helps a lot when you go to his office hours. class was interesting as long as you like the material. bascially tells you all you need to know so that you can wrie your paper w/o reading too much. he's super nice and a fair grader, though some ppl find it hard to get a good grade on the papers
