Terrible. Gives tests in essay form. Complained on my first test that I was too concise, then that I was too rambling on my second test. This coming from a man who spent an entire class period going on and on about Theodore Roosevelt's personality. Also, VERY unhelpful, mostly because he can't hear you. IMO this guy should retire.

I love history and he made the class very intertaining. Listening to his lectures is like watching the History channel! All I did was go to class, read the book, and take notes and I got an A+! Not really that hard if you pay attention and do the readings!

Comment:

The most interesting, yet worst professor I have ever had. Very old, forgets what he is talking about in the middle of lectures. Tests are completely written. Over 300 pages per test (3 per semester) and he only goes over like 45. Asks specific questions about 4-5 people/events that may have been mentioned in 3 sentences out of 300 pages.

Comment:

Almost impossible to take structured notes based on lectures. You have to read the text and take your own notes based on key points he mentions. Test are blue book and hit or miss. Lectures are unintersting and hard to follow. Goes off on theatrical tangents that are about as entertaining as they are constructive testing material. Old fashioned.

Overall knowledgeable about the material but completely lacks the ability to stay on topic. Doesn't tell you what is expected on exams, no review. I had to read the book in class just to keep focused on what we were actually talking about. It seems my grades reflect how well a class is taught so I see why I got a C

Dr. Pohl's classes are difficult because he expects you to study, do the work and come to his class prepared. Yes, he's from a different era. He expects male students to remove their hats in the classroom, and bans laptops and recording devices unless you are registered with the student disability office, learn to take notes.

He's a great professor. Yeah it's a hard class but people shouldn't expect complete ease throughout life. He gives good feedback on exams which helps you know what he expects next time. Plus he almost always bumps your grade up from what the TA gives you. Do not bring a laptop! Unless you have a disability he bans all laptops & recording devices.

He's extremely smart. His tests are hard and don't even bother attempting them if you haven't attended the SI sessions. I made an A, but I went to most of the SI sessions and barely pulled it off.

This guy sucks, he gives 10 minutes worth of information and then a 30 minute theatrical reinactment of what he just said that makes no sense. He likes to hear his own voice, and if you go to his office, expect to be called a complainer or bellyacher. Do not take him!!

He is awesome. The best teacher ever. Must work really hard and expects a lot but isnt that what teachers should do. He will not just hand out an A if u get a C well its cause u r an average student. Too Bad. I learned so freaking much in his classes.

He is a very interactive professor. Loves to tell stories and he is very intelligent!!! He knows what he is talking about. Must go to SI sessions though to get all info he wants for exams. Hated history before, but now i atleast know something about it. Finished with a C+

Interesting class but difficult. I've tried different methods of writing on my tests and still receive the same grade every test. Drops lowest test but expects ALOT. If you are not a fast writer find another teacher. I LOVE history and I'm a decent writer and I'm stuck with a C-

Old guy, stands in the front all class lecturing without pause. As a freshman I hated this class, just because it wasn't at all interesting to me. As a junior thinking back, he was a good teacher, although tough, very good. Perfect freshman teacher to weed out all the kids who were 'made' to go to college by their parents and didn't give a crap.
