I've known Jim for a while know. Though there are flaws here and there, it is an absolute pleasure to take his class. You're mostly working with wax, but if you're willing you can learn to use power tools, cold forging, and even welding! Just know that you can't expect him to push you to finish your work. It's on you to meet the deadlines!

Look, him is pretty chill. Just make sure you show up and do the work. He loves lecturing and goes on tangents, but sometimes his points of views and stories can be entertaining. You can learn life lessons from him of you're willing to listen. Bronze costs a lot of money, so plan ahead. Also, time management there are two projects so pace yourself.

Really great professor. He has taught me a lot in a short time. Best professor I've ever had. He cares, and wants you to do well. His lectures are filled with information. I can't wait to go to class! He's one of the special ones!

The class is super easy and super chill if you actually do work. The only issue is time. As soon as he lets you start your first project you better haul ass. Same with the second. Only a few people got to pour both their projects. I only got to pour one project. The other is in the wax/mold graveyard. Plus some of the advanced students are so cute!

Talks half the semester away and doesn't have any clear deadlines. Practically impossible to complete 2 projects in allotted time so my advice would be to just focus on one. As many other comments reiterate he talks way too much.

I took sculpting I with Jim. A lot of the class was super boring, especially at the beginning. He doesnt teach you much on what to do, kind of lets you just figure it out, which is a little scary. He doesnt tell you when things are due so most of the class didnt get their projects done. Costs over $100 for bronze

Jim is a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable. He teaches multiple levels in the same class period. Thus, you have to wait to talk to him sometimes but he gives everyone the time they need. He has great ideas to fix a project that went wrong and does eveyrhting he can to help. If you love art, take his classes. Best classes at Grossmont.

I took sculp to learn sculpting. He taught nothing about sculpting, was irritated when asked for help. His suggestions when I did ask were worse than useless. Luckily, he's an easy grader so I still got an A. Course descrip should disclose "casting in bronze," which is hella expensive (over $100). Lab fees don't cover bronze.

He's one of those that's just kinda "there"; if it weren't his political rants, you wouldn't even know he's around. If you're required to take an art class (like myself) and want an easy "A", go with him all means, if you really want to learn something on the subject, stay away.

The comments are true.A bit pricey(but no book or studying), and he talks alot. 1st week is creepy, but then its fine. Just work while he is talking. He doesn't care about attendence AFTER about 3-4 weeks. Make sure to clean-up your stuff! Their is about 1 paper(easy-go to UCSD) GREAT CLASS TO TAKE WITH A FRIEND! You can talk the whole time.

I did not sign up for this class realizing it was going to be wax and bronze the whole time, I suppose thats why I didn't do much in class. He likes artsy kids that can b.s. with him about John Waters and the like, so I still got a good grade. The bronze was so expensive I never actually made anything. Pretty cool guy.

Extremely boring. talks about himself all class, and due to this he is rarely helpful with tasks at hand. forgot to tell our class not to layer clay...thus when put in the kiln ALL clay blew up. he doesn't take role, and cant remember assignments; take for an easy A. you will learn NOTHING in this class guaranteed.

He talks way too much and wastes a lot of class time. He tends to dissappear often from the class. Only turned in one project for a grade and i got an A. Easy...but be prepared for long stories and sometimes lack of help.

Countless hours wasted, Don't take this class unless it's for your major because most of the time in the class is spent, doing nothing. Very few projects and too much time to do them. If you attend class and stay the entire time and do your projects you will get an A.
