Comment:
This class was not hard at all. I thought it was just challenging on the terms and amount of material went over per lecture. May be boring but you will learn a lot. The TA is very helpful and touches up on unclear things you have. If you do the homework and spend 2-3 days studying you will pass. The midterms and exams were easy.

I get to rate him again since I took him again. From last semester, he really improved . . . probably from my evaluation. This is how I want him improved. However, the lectures do not clearly explain assignments, but TA's are very helpful. He is good, but not very attention-grabbing; just your usual detail-oriented professor.

In my opinion, Dr. Stelovsky is very knowledgeable in the field of Discrete Mathematics (ICS 141). However, he is unable to make students understand the material. He does encourage participation and both the TA and Dr. Stelovsky grade very fairly on exams. Decent instructor that needs to stop relying on slides and bring his ideas forward.

He knows what he's teaching, but does it in a way that is hard for students to understand. Reads straight from a ppt, and often reads the material wrong even if its in front of his face. Not to mention his thick accent which makes it even harder to comprehend what he's saying

Comment:
Quirky but definitely smart. But it was easy to get lost during the lectures and he pretty much just read off the slides when presenting class material. Assignments seemed put together at the last minute with a lack of specifications which usually caused confusion. Grading throughout the semester was horribly slow.

Comment:
He obviously wasn't interested in teaching this class. Lectures were regurgitated from previous instructors with no in-depth explanations of advanced concepts. Assignments were thought up right before class which led to A LOT of misunderstandings. John Wu is terrible at grading the hw's. Labs are worthless.

He really knows his stuff but is unable to convey it clearly to students. He does a lot of talking at the class which make the lectures worthless. Assignments are too difficult and not enough details are given. The TA John Wu is an incompetent grader and is useless for help.

Like someone else said, he seems to know his stuff but can't pass this knowledge onto students. Lecture was filled with demos of what to do but no real explanations on how to do things. Exams were tough and really in depth. Assignments were complex and graded hard. TA not very helpful either, the labs were not worth attending.

I thought he was a great professor. Works hard to get students involved by asking questions to keep you awake. I honestly learned a lot from Stelovsky's class. He shows you how to become a better programmer and make your code easier to read. To everyone else badmouthing this guy, CS is hard, suck it up. If you don't like it, change majors.

DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! He may know what he's talking about but he's completely incapable of explaining it to anyone else. I'm a good student and I work very hard here. Still, he loses me even if I already understood the topic! The TA John Wu doesn't respond to emails either. Also I had NO idea what to expect for exams (they were hard and unfair).

Lame. You do everything on your own. Online course that offers nothing. This is not an introduction class.

Assignments are hard enough to complete, and when it gets to tests, the midterm is after the last day to withdraw with a W grade and its unbelieveable how in depth it is.

He is the worst teacher ever. He is supposed to be a PhD in ICS, he couldn't even log into MyUHPortal. He is a hack and can't teach to save his life. This is coming from someone who did well in his class. He assigns you projects that he never teaches you how to do. Ridiculously hard tests. Take Albrittron if you want to learn anything.
