I took two courses from Dr. de Leon. I was very impressed with her professionalism, and knowledge. I learned more in this class than any other course in my major. I am prouder of earning Bs in her classes than any As I've ever earned.

Professor deleon was a wonderful professor. she is very strict and demanding, but wants her students to do well in the future. if you actually take notes and do the assigned essays you will learn so much. Her office hours were really flexible and she always made time to meet. this class is deffinitely a challenge, but well worth it in the end!

LOTS of reading--minimum 150 pages/night. Is really more a philosophy class than a literature class but still very interesting and informative. The first three tests will drive you bonkers but the last one, "the play," turned out to be a blast. Overall I enjoyed the class and her teaching style definitely grew on me. Not for weak-minded or lazy.

Do not take this class if you are a christian. She is very blasphemous and requires blasphemy in her assignments and secular analysis of christian writings.

Stanford educated, knows her stuff, extremely knowledgable in grammer and writing. She's tough and strict in class but kind in person. Grades VERY hard. To get an A you'll have to "teach her something about writing". Lots of work, requires cristical thinking, an essay due just about every week. hard class but you'll learn a LOT!

most immpossible teacher I have ever encountered. Tried to get help and she didn't have any time for her students.. She should stick to her administrative job and give up on teaching... She is crazy smart and full of knowledge... but she forgets somtimes that we aren't all in her shoes, she expects us to be famililiar with everything. I dropped

Dr. de Leon is the best teacher i have ever taken a class from. She is very hard, very challenging, and she will make you work. She is great for english majors serious about going to uc or state. Go to her office hours, get help from her, show interest in your subject and you will learn a lot. I think she is very kind as well--just give it time!!!

Easily misunderstood professor. In her class you'll need to listen, read, and challenge yourself. Her lectures are all business. Show her that you are there with interest and are trying, it will pay off. No free A's from this professor, you need'll to "earn" a good grade. Great professor for English majors, or anyone serious about their education.

She comes across a bit cold at first, but if you stick with the class (in my case it dwindled from standing room only to 8 people at the end of the semester), you will find you've learned a lot.She is one of those professors that you don't fully appreciate until after you've completed her class. She is dedicated to her students and she's very smart.

She's extremely knowledgeable, but she seems to have a hard time conveying it to her students. She does expect a lot from her students, too much sometimes. But she's not rude, or at least she isn't to anyone in my class. She will listen to our ideas, she allowed us to take our midterm as a group instead of individually like originally planned.

Took Amercian Literature from her. She is scary smart, I could have gotten an A if I would have tried, but I slacked off horribly. She is so into what she teaches. I remember her reciting a letter from a Vietnam soldier to his family before he died, as she finished she began to cry and it really moved me, seriously. She really uses both sides of her brain and I like her attire. If your serious about English and/or English lit, take her, if your a slacker, you will never make it.

Took English Literature 320 from her. Wow, very challenging class. This is the equivalent of an honors class. I just wasn't interested in Literature, so I just quit showing up and got an F, pretty stupid I know. Like any class, if you want to succeed, you will. She is incredibly smart, I just wasn't up to the challenge. She really prepares JC students well for 4 year universities. Make sure you ask a lot of questions and meet with her during office hours.

This lady is a whack job. 3 week turn around on tests when she's only teaching one class. Barely covers anything we read in her lectures, spends more time talking about philosophy (graduate level, might I add) Do NOT take this class if you want to get an A, cuz it isn't going to happen, and if you still decide to take this class, make sure you aren't taking any other classes, because she will be assuming that this class is your only class, and that you don't have a life outside of school! 100+pgs. per night

Comment:
This class is not for the faint of heart. Unless you're a hard-core literature buff, do not take her class. Pretty much lectures off of the notes on the overhead (while not allowing adequate time for recording the information), is not very dilligent in preparing students for tests, and does not take into consideration that this class is not our only class. A very knowledgable person and actually friendly outside of class, but not a very effective teacher.
