Comment:

Recommended for all students in the health caregiver majors and fellow English majors. His selection of material gives a 360-degree view of all the perspectives of those affected by illness. I was introduced to genres I had no idea I would like.

His lectures are not regurgitated. He doesn't use notes. He is undoubtedly an academic expert in comics history and also a passionate fan. The assignments were enjoyable. This class was a great elective to take.

Jared is extremely knowledgeable and interested in teaching. "Pop quizzes" he'll tell you about ahead of time. Post slides and records lectures for those who can't attend, but does take attendance. Papers are straightforward. Exams are simple as well. Depending on your TA, you may not even have read the passages. Simply pay attention Great guy.

This class was painfully lecture heavy. Jared is clearly a bright guy and very interested in the material, but he doesn't do a great job of facilitating discussion. Yet he wants to grade you on participation.... I tried reaching out throughout the semester and had a difficult time getting responses.

He's knowledgeable about comics & passionate as well, which makes lecture more fun. He's accommodating to all needs and easy to contact. His quizzes are hard, but if you read then you'll do well. He's kind of a tough grader, but just do your assignments on time & participate if you want a good grade. I loved this class and would take him again.

Gardner is a smart enough guy but likes to hear himself talk (talks 90% of the class in disorganized fashion). Spent the majority of discussions talking about film production minutia or retrospectively applying contemporary discourses about gender & sexuality to films to which they did not seem particularly relevant. Academic pablumdisappointing.

He is the most boring person I have ever met. He is very passionate but it is hard to pay attention if you are not interested in the topic. It is a very hard class to follow as well, he is not very specific. He does not clarify things, he just kind of rambles on about something and you have no idea what is important. His power points are useless.

Jared is really chill and easy to get along with. This class is definitely an Easy A. No tests besides the final. Weekly quizzes are guaranteed 100%. However, he has a harsh attendance policy, so while this class would be no problem to skip normally, he will dock your grade if you don't show up. Papers aren't difficult, and have clear criteria.

I loved this class and you could tell that Jared loved it too. It was the first time he'd ever taught it, but it went really well. There was one project and one paper with weekly quizzes. He was always really helpful. I highly recommend him.

Prof. Gardner is an excellent teacher. This class was about comic books and the films that are based off of them. One day a week was devoted to watching a film the other day was discussion. Jared knows his stuff and the class had some great discussions. I highly recommend him and this class.

Great professor all around. Extremely knowledgeable in regard to comic books, pop culture and film, the class was a helluva lot of fun. I really enjoyed Prof. Gardner a lot. I had very little interest in the subject of the class, but it was still pretty good for a class. I'm glad I followed a friend's recommendation. Class discussions are entertaining and very easy to get into, as well as he grades very easily on the few assignments you do have.

Take every class you can with Jared. He is the BEST English professor at Ohio State. He is very cool, and will help you with any questions you have. He is also a very fair grader. Its not worth it to miss class either, but I dont know why anyone would want to skip (I also took him for Arts and Sciences 264 - Pop Culture, awesome class)
