Comment:

I'm so surprised to see so many negative reviews! Granted, I graduated from Goucher in 1977, and was far more interested in partying than academics, but Dr. Bradford is still one of the most inspiring women of my life. She introduced me to the world of psychology and brought to life people who helped shape the field. I loved her classes!

This is the kind of professor you want to challenge you and make you think. She's really smart. She attended JHU for undergrad, and she expects higher-level writing. She actually has commuicated and met with some of the psychologists you'll discuss in class. The only problem: she goes off on tangents that leave other topics of her lecture missed.

LOL! Had Jean over 10 years ago...is Bob Dylan still a modern day prophet?? She had her favorites and if you were one of them you got an A. God help you if you had your own opinion and didn't believe in the life changing experience of being "rebirthed" out of a sleeping bag. She still smoke those little brown cigarettes?

Jean is one of the worst teachers that I have ever had in my entire academic career. Not only is she a bad teacher but she tells a million stories that have no relevance to your grade. She assigns at least 10 books to read.And everything she says she thinks is brilliant but is really crap. If possible NEVER EVER take her classes!

This is the most frustrating class I have ever taken. She talks every day about her irrelevant passions wanting you to take notes. Then, three times a semester you have to write a 20 page paper on stuff never covered in class. She expects knowlege we do not have a grades accordingly. She will give zeros on full sections for no aparent reason.

OK, so she's a bit antiquated and takes to extremes in her ideas, but she's been around a lot and had an amazing life. She's a wealth of knowledge and is always willing to meet people where they are and work towards an understanding of the ideas. She is a bit set in her ways and she does demand a lot of her students, but only becuase she cares.

If you enjoy reading nine books in one semester just to rewrite every word into three 15 page papers, this class is for you. But if you're like most of us, avoid this class like the plague. If she does not agree with your stance you are either attacked in class or on your papers, and either way, your grade will suffer.

Jean Bradford is a wonderful person who is, by no account, "crazy". She is able to see past a lot of the **** that psychology presents. She isn't a "difficult grader" if you try to write from and understand the perspective of the authors that you read in her class.

Jean's class is a little slow at times, but if you listen to her lectures you realize she really understands the material. The readings are interesting, and the tests can take their toll on you, but it's well worth it. She's always outside smoking and talking with students, and she has a lot to offer.

Jean Bradford will offer alternative perspectives that you are highly unlikely to learn in any other college. Jean challenges the assumptions made in psychology and will expect you to do the same. A lot of people don't like her class because she requires you to do a lot of work and reflection. I think she's absolutely amazing!

Jean is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She doesn't allow for a difference of opinion in class discussions or papers. She is generally rude, curt and unapproachable. The only thing I learned in her class was how to regurgitate lectures twice a semester on paper. Get out of her class by taking an abnormal psych class at Towson or Loyola.

I have never liked Jean because I find her grading to be based solely on who she likes and who she does not like. However, I have a good friend who says she is one of the best teachers she has ever had. There may be something in that... She IS intelligent and she knows her 'stuff'
