Dr. Austen is one of the best professors in the department who genuinely cares about his students and the material he is teaching to us. He is always more than willing to meet with students outside of class. Although I had to do a little bit of research/learning outside of class on my own, I learned more than I have in any other class this semester

No quizzes. No midterms or finals. We don't do much and receive an A. We do go up to the lab occasionally. He doesn't make you do anything but the general requirements. Austen lets us finish the semester early, so that we don't have to attend the last few weeks of the semester.

He is a difficult professor and expects you to know things that you have not even studied for before. I am good at programming but he put in electrical engineering concepts, which I had no clue about. You really gotta work hard for his class to do well. Don't slack, otherwise you can easily fail.

If you like theory, you'll like Austen, if you don't good luck with him. See him in office hours if you have legitimate problems, he's usually good in person. Lectures are almost a waste of time. However, if you can stay awake for the entire time, you'll almost certainly pass with a high B.

Got ECE-4020 DSP with Dr. Austen. Made me understand the relationship between Laplace, Fourier, DFT, FFT and Z transforms. Great professor! Had to work hard but it has made me understand the subject!

I had Dr. Austen for digital systems and ECE 2001. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. His lectures were sometimes hard to takes notes over. I just listened and that was normally enough. Homework was sometimes time consuming but always relevant. Tests were ok. He gives sample tests, but don't expect him to copy paste to the test.

He is a great professor for EE majors, he related what you are learning to real life applications. He gives sample tests before exams so you know what to expect but you need to know the material to do well. Overall, a great teacher who is interesting to those interested in his field

Took Dr Austen for both Digital Signal Processing and Probability. He is one of the few professors in Engineering that practice what they teach. He often stayed late (10pm) in the telecom lab helping people with their projects. He is really the best professor in the ECE department hands down.

Dr. Austen is great in lab. He's friendly and you can tell that he's happy to help. 2060 is a lot of work, but after you finish the course, you'll be more than ready to face upper division labs. My suggestion is to make a template for your lab reports and just keep using it. Bonus if you know LaTeX, as your reports will need to be very structured.

This professor is absolutely fantastic. He has a passion for telecommunications and it shows. He was fantastic for both the theory and application courses and his approach has really helped me maintain my knowledge of the subject. The information taught was very helpful when interviewing because I actually learned the subject!

Intro to University. Not his real engineering class. He seems to care about that class as much as I do. Its a waste of time, but he doesn't make you do more than the general requirements. Pretty lame class, but from what I hear about other 1020 engr profs, very very easy. Electrical Engr. Only.

He is avery nice teacher and helps you on your homeworks and his grading is fair. For some people if they get bad grade they say is teacher's fault but not theirs. you will learn from Dr. Austen. Dr. Carnel and Dr. Austen are the best at ECE department. take him and please study and do not complain.

im surprised he doesnt have a better rating on here...the ABSOLUTE best lecturer i've had to date.gives several examples, EXTREMELY fair tests, EXTREMELY reasonable homework,EXTREMELY helpful if you have problems with homework.the only bad point:takes a while to get back tests..etc, but hey, we all procrastinate. i recomend him....

Does a fine job in lecture. It is a little boreing and he tries to dumb it down. The only poblem was that this class just has way too much work for 1 credit. Hint... get a file.

Actually ecpected us to memorize the resistor color codes to answer some quiestions on our final (and didnt tell us prior to the quiz either) He is definitely a smart man, but an insanely horrible teacher.

He's obviously intelligent and he has a clear lecture style, but he is sort of mechanical in his delivery. Can't say anything about his grading since the TA's did all the grading in this class. I wouldn't be opposed to taking him in a lecture class.
