Jeff Harder is one of the worst professors I have ever had. You cannot read his handwriting when he lectures and is not specific and does not give details about topics while giving his lectures. He is a very tough grader and you are graded on 2 papers, midterm, and final. I would suggest not taking him because he's all around a terrible professor.

Get ready for the monologues of lectures that he gives!! If you cannot sit still for 2.5 hrs while listening to him talk about all the things he has done and how much he hates the program for its sucky quality save yourself the time. Harsh grader, confusing class structure, high expectations but nice guy. I wouldn't take him again though.

Overall a good professor and I learned a ton, but I think his teaching style might be more suited to film majors than non-majors. Lectures can be hard to follow and he gets off-topic a lot, but again, I learned a ton about film and art criticism in general. Class can drag on if the movie is boring, but an easy A if you study and take good notes.

He is a really good professor. When I write this, I mean that you learn a lot about complex ideas related to film. This is an eye-opening class and is interesting. It was surprisingly easy to sit through 3 hours of class in one session and had a great time. This is one of the smartest guys I have ever met.

Jeff is THE film teacher. He's an human encyclopedia when it comes to films. If you're passionate about the subject, he's the best choice. Just keep asking him about films and you will learn A LOT.

Jeff Harder, aka "The Human Encyclopedia", is by far my favorite professor at Loyola. You either love him or hate him. He seriously knows so much, the thing is he sometimes looses track by diving into other topics from time to time, but you actually LEARN. His classes are super intensive, so if you want an easy A or are not interested, don't take.

Class is very long (3hrs) and can sometimes drone on during classes where we watch more boring films. That being said, Jeff is an awesome instructor. I learned so much in this class about film and I wasn't interested all that much before. He grades a harshly on papers but more lenient on exams. I would def take this class, its worth it.

Aside from Booth, Jeff is the only IFMS prof. who TEACHES students. Genre classes aren't just about watching films, they're about analyzing how the film was made, for what reasons, and how it impacts society. Production classes with J.H. were the most productive and hands-on out of any. He knows film and film equipment (unlike the dept. head E.C.)

Jeff is by far the BEST Professor I have had, not just in film but ever. It is amazing to have a professor who will literally be willing to sit down with you after class and chat with you about film over a beer. What Jeff offers is hard to find at Loyola Chicago and I would recommend him without hesitation. Jeffs Awesome!!!

Jeff is awesome! His classes are not easy but if I wanted it to be easy I wouldn't pay the kind of money I do for college. Anyway he will teach you ALOT, and he is always there to help you out if you need it. If Loyola was smart they would give him more classes.

Rivaled only by Michael Booth Jeff Harder is by far the best professor Loyola Chicago has. He is leterally the only person who you will learn something about film from while here. That said he is also demanding and if you are not up for that don't take him and you may not wanna go into film. If you wanna learn alot though Jeff's your guy!

Harder is very opinionated and expects you to take to heart his points of view. His exams reflect heavily on the readings, even ones that are rarely discussed, so do them all. Films are to be watched on time and discussed in class and on the exams, even if they are films viewed outside of class on your own time. Challenging, but completely worth it

Jeff is by no means an easy prof, but he is also not a rediculously hard professor. Extremely understanding and alot of fun. If you are really interested and want to learn a ton about film, he is the man to take. Honestly Jeff is the reason I'm still at Loyola despite other faculty that will remain unnamed. Definately recommend any of his classes

MY FIRST CINEMA CLASS EVER, I TOOK IT AS AN ELECTIVE. HE ROCKS. WE WATCHED SOME GOOD MOVIES I NEVER CONSIDERED BEFORE. GRADES FAIR ON PAPERS, BUT IF YOU FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS IN CLASS N ASSIGNMENT, YOU'LL GET A GOOD GRADE. TESTS REQUIRE SOME STUDYING; DEDICATE A GOOD 2 HOURS N YOU'LL DO GOOD ON THE TESTS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

You have to attend class and pay attention to do well. He's very enthusiastic and knowledgeable but if you don't have experience in film, you really have to stay on top of things in this class. He's a passionate professor but class can feel very boring and tedious. I recommend him only if you really care about film and have good time management.

He is a good teacher but tend to take an INTO TO CINEMA class too seriously. Two exams and two papers. I took good notes in class and didn't even read the book and got As on exam. But I would recommend to read the book because he tends to ramble sometimes.

jeff is a cool guy... but this class is way too technical. we had to memorize various camera shots and the movies we watched were not all that great. if you want a class that gets heavy into movies and watches good ones, don't take this class.

jeff is an awesome guy. he is hilarious and likes to joke around with his students. all of those people who are bashing him are idiots. his classes are three and a half hours long but GET OVER IT.. you signed up for a class where you watch movies and discuss it for an hour and a half. not that tough. you write 2 papers and have a midterm and final
