Professor Hummel is not for everyone. If you can't stand a 3-hour traditional lecture of just listening to someone speak then this class is not for you. With that said, Hummel is one of the more knowledgeable professors in the economics department. His exams may be hard, but record his lectures, and he basically gives you the answers.

Hummel is a fount of knowledge when it comes to economic thought. You will not appreciate his class if you do not record his sessions and listen to them later. His expectations are fair If you dont take him you are missing out

Great professor, really knows what hes talking about and makes the class very interesting. However, theres no PowerPoint during the lecture, it is just him speaking so you have to record his lectures every class and re-listen to them before every test and final to even have a chance. If youre willing to do that its a great class!

Lecture class. recommend to record his lectures. tests are very hard, you have to study down to every little thing he said. Final is not hard at all, super easy. Best thing is no papers are due, just read show up and you're good!

Hummel is a robot. Monotone 3 hour long lectures that drone endlessly. His lectures heavily deviate from the readings and his opinions and views get mixed into them. You need to do all the readings for his quizzes, but his exams are all based on his lectures. I would not recommend him if you can't listen to white noise for 3 hours.

He's firgured out how to ensure his students will not pass without reading. His weekly quizzes are based solely of the reading. Hard class. But Hummel is the reason to study Economics at SJSU. Guy's a legend.

I have had Professor Hummel for 102, 135, and 113A. Professor Hummel's courses require a significant amount of reading. He recommends recording his lectures, and this greatly helps when studying for his exams. Overall, Professor Hummel is a wealth of information and a great addition to the Economics Department at SJSU.

Most qualified Econ professor at SJSU. Write down every single thing that comes out of his mouth. Assigns a lot of reading but fortunately the exams are only on his lectures.

Dr. Hummel teaches economics with a historic sense. His lectures go on for full class duration, so if you space out for a minute in his long only oral (with lot of graphs drawn on the board) lectures, you are likely to miss a lot of important stuff. Take enough caffeine and get ready to work! Very interesting class!

Professor Hummel is a great instructor, while he lectures the whole class period, he can clearly and concisely convey the point(s) of the unit. Reading the book in his class is an absolute must in order to pass but he does not assign homework outside of the textbook. His exams are based off the outlines given, so no surprises. Highly recommend him

Not sure how Professor Hummel has such a high score on here! Here's the truth: monotone 3 hour lecture, this is not the amazing professor who will make you love economics. He talks down to students to show how intelligent he is. Oral quiz every week, he repeats each question up to 5 times(WHY NOT JUST PROJECT IT ON THE BOARD?!!) Efficient much?

Hummel is one of the most brilliant Professors at SJSU, but for that reason he should stick to graduate studies. First don't take Econ 135 unless your prepared to read & analyze 50+ pages a week & take an ambiguous and purposely tricky quiz. Not to mention his funky grading system that works against you, stay away from this class & save your GPA

Dr. Hummel is the best! I have never had an Econ Professor who is as clear and concise as him. For someone with a PhD in History and not Econ, I would have never known from the beginning. He knows how to teach students very well. Everything that comes out of his mouth matters. No extra filler to confuse you. Write everything he says down.

Engaging and unique lectures, but talks fast so recommends a voice recorder. Sometimes goes too fast so things aren't clear.2 exams multiple choice and short answer aren't easy - he places a couple tricky ones to get you thinking how things really work. Quiz every class meet based off reading assignments. 2 exams and final based only on lecture.

Hummel is very opinionated about Economics and his stance about the government, but he does give examples why and they make sense. The class is lecture based so it is filled with note taking. Make sure to write down everything he says. Tests are based on lectures and quizzes are based on readings. Pay attention, focus, and ask questions.

Lots of reading and conceptual memorization. He has a weekly quiz based on the reading, and the exams are generally based on the lectures + reading. Hummel is a very Austrian-style Economist so it's interesting to be exposed that school of thought with a Macro perspective. Hard class, but you'll be glad you took it with him.
