one of the most disorganized teacher i have ever had. There was no syllabus, no structure course plan or reading list. She would wing her lectures and often cancel without prior warning. Entire class was based on one twenty page essay to which there was no clear grading criteria. How she still manages to keep her job at Cal is beyond me.

This a a really great brilliant teacher who teaches you to properly research a topic as an undergrad and get published. If you are not a chancellor's merit scholar that gets a guarantee to publish your work as an undergrad, then this is the class to take. She inspires you to connect to your authentic self and shine using the English archives.

Doctor Miller is AMAZING, don't read the bad reviews they're worthless. I have never learned more or enjoyed learning so much as I did in her class. Even though she was in and out of the hospital she still took her personal time to make sure her students were ok, this woman is an INCREDIBLE scholar and a GEM in Berkeley. Taking her for spring again

Great person, caring. But one of the worst professors I've ever had in my college career. My grades haven't been submitted because she lost my final and my paper which were both 50% of my grade. Doesn't respond to emails, showed up 28 mins late to our final and canceled or winged classes last minute. Didn't learn a thing. Don't take any class w her

She taught King Arthur literature. This class was awesome! She is very organized and really cares. Very sharp and a Rhodes Scholar! She had an injury and if you have a heart you will be understanding-have respectful persistence and patience. She provides seminars to write papers. Great feedback. The best! Accessible for DSP students.

Miller seems to be a good person... But is a terrible professor. She never set up a bcourse, gave us the syllabus halfway through the semester, does not respond to emails or notes on her office door, and never seems to have a set plan for the day. Also cancelled classes almost every week, last minute. The class itself could have been interesting.

Prof Miller is a nice woman, and cares a lot about english. However, she is extremely unorganized, basically wings her lectures everyday, and has no clear grading rubric/syllabus. Its been 5 months since the semester ended and my grade is still "incomplete." One paper&final for the whole class which I still don't know my grade. Avoid this class

Professor Miller is an amazing human being. She genuinely cares about what she teaches and is super approachable. Don't be afraid to speak out in class! She loves students who care about learning and does her best to motivate them! Don't trust the negative feedback! Stop by her office hours and find out for yourself!

She is knowledgeable but disorganized. I wouldn't mind this if she actually cared about the class. There was no syllabus, even though it was promised; she cancelled a few times, and I rarely came out of class satisfied with lecture. I still haven't received a grade for the class; the assignments are a joke; one of my assignments got lost.

Miller is incredibly disorganized. She has never once responded to my e-mails (which have asked for help and attached assignments). She made a syllabus, but never got around to giving it to us throughout the entire semester. Her grading criteria, expectations, and assignments are unclear. She is always the last professor to submit grades.

Jen Miller is the worst professor I've had at Cal. Yes, she's smart, but she's so disorganized that she wings most lectures. Good luck trying to find your paper in the stacks of disorganized papers strewn about her office. Yes, she has smart things to say, if you were hosting a Chaucer-themed cocktail party, but as a teacher, she comes up short.

Don't take a Miller class unless you can't live without her specialties. She certainly has many great ideas, but I was constantly frustrated with the lack of organization in lecture & in class logistics in general. She assigned a 20 page paper and a final for a non-seminar class. Still don't know what my grade is: she didn't submit grades on time.

All the praises sung to this professor are still not adequate. If you are an English major, do not deprive yourself by leaving Cal without having taken a class with her. She is one of the most brilliant minds the university has to offer. She is also incredibly understanding and accommodating. Her OH are much more like spending time with a friend.

This is one of the best professors I've ever had. Yes, she does expect a lot from her students, but we do go to Berkeley! She is genuinely interested in and loves her students. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled into her class my first semester at Cal. I'm already enrolled to take another class with her next semester.

I have never had a professor show more personal interest in the academic careers of her students. All the effort you make in her classes she will put right back into you. If you want to go to grad school, she can help get you there. She is very challenging, and seems intimidating, but is very kind when she's one-on-one and is worth the hard work.

She was wonderful. She was one of my favorite teachers at Cal. Didn't know a thing about manuscript texts, but her class was interesting and relevant. I had her years ago and came across a dusty reader from her class. She does expect a lot from her students, but I remember her lectures years later.

brilliant, yes; good intentions, yes. but also disorganized and unclear about expectations to the point of her students' utter frustration and bewilderment. took more than a month to receive final grade. avoid unless you can't live without studying medieval lit.

Kind, helpful and engaged in office hours, very smart, with a passionate but grating lecturing style. Also, rather passive aggressive and pedantic. She has a coterie of hardcore medievalists-in-training who eat up all the A grades, so try hard! Still, I'd recommend taking at least one class. Some people fall in love with her teaching.

Kind, intimidating, brilliant, helpful, awesome, challenging, innovative, mind-blowing. I love her. Even if you're not into medieval literature, she'll make it fascinating. In her eyes, undergrads are still legitimate scholars, and she makes you feel more relevant than any other professor will. Not easy, and you need to work, but so worth it.
