I graduated from Western Oregon in 2014. I am now a software developer. Right out of college, it was a steep learning curve. You will struggle and you will fight for solutions BUT one thing you learn is, there is ALWAYS a solution! There was no course that better prepares you then Jies. Is it easy? No but he knows exactly what he is doing!

Comment:

Lot's of good material, very industry literate. You will come away with quite a bit of new knowledge. He clearly knows his stuff but he doesn't make it inaccessible. He's very kind and takes time to explain information, but sometimes there are some language barriers. Tests/Quiz's are hard, but he usually curves them.

Jie's classes are always a challenge. At first I didn't like him, but he really cares about students' achievement and wants them to succeed and pass his classes. He is also an invaluable resource for industry knowledge and resume help.

You will learn a lot in any class he teaches, one of the best in CS dept . His tests can be really difficult. He usually drops the lowest quiz score, which really helps. He's funny in lecture, and cares about students. Sometimes his questions get confusing, I think because English isn't his first language; accent is very very mild.

Jie is awesome, he is always willing to help and discuss your ideas. The instructions are clear, he inspires the students to participate in the classes. He is interested, dedicated and has a good class structure.

I have taken a few classes from this professor. He is a great guy. Good sense of humor and fun to take class from. A heads up though... His classes are not easy and he will make you work for it, but I highly recommend work hard and get a good grade before the final. Avoid having to take his finals at all cost. I do highly recommend him though

Kind of a mixed bag. Strong points are personality and a fairly straightforward lecture style. He's a little bit disorganized though (shows up to most lectures late, forgets to post things on his website in a timely manner, wrong due dates on re-used assignments). He looks up to Dr. Olson a bit too, which makes me question his character judgement

His humor is subtle, but he's incredibly funny if you catch it. The material is not hard and I came out of that class with an A- when I did not think I did that well. Highly recommend for any CS class. Jie is interested in the students, not the last day of the term.
