The worst professor I have ever had. Very nice man who obviously knows the material well, but some people should not be teachers. He is one of those people. Doesn't know how to use canvas, awful lectures, extremely unorganized. If you want to do well in his class you have to do the readings and teach yourself because he's not going to.

This class was ridiculous. His lectures are long, messy, and unclear. He is incredibly hard to understand and prone to rambling off. Exams and quizzes don't match up with what he discusses in class. Some students gets A's, others get D's for the same level of work/similar answers. Avoid Inverarity at all costs if you'd like a decent GPA.

He is a brilliant, kind man - but teaching isn't his strong suite. His class notes are confusing & unclear, making his tests seems especially hard. However, he curves his scores so it's not hard to pass. Many students get irritated with him, but he really does try his best & wants the best for his students. Also, there's a quiz almost every class.

Sometimes his lectures are interesting, but most of the time I struggled to stay awake. The class average for the quizzes was 40%. He curved the hell out of the exams (for one, anyone who got a 50% or higher got an A). I didn't have motivation to go to class. He seems very smart but can't articulate anything and is easily confused.

While I am sure he is a brilliant man, he is the worst professor I have ever had at WWU. He assigns more reading than can be reasonably handled on time, poorly organized notes, and even though he gives the class most of the exam questions ahead of time, he has to curve the exam scores so that everyone isn't failing the class. A chore and a bore.

I definitely agree that he is misunderstood by his students. A lot of the students in my class didn't give him enough credit. He's a smart guy and I did have to clarify many things with him but he is definitely willing to do so. Easy class if you attend most of the lectures and do the study guides.

He is very knowledgeable, but lectures are early in the morning and hard to stay awake to. He would have to explain his notes in class to connect to the course. Towards the end was also stressful because the different topics did not relate. The final exam was the worst because it was in a different format than the previous tests.

I've had this professor twice because i am a Soc major and i have promised myself that i will never take him again. Out of all the professors in the Soc. department he is probably the most qualified but he is by far the worst at teaching the material. Unless you want an extremely stressful quarter dont take a class with him.

Out of all the teachers I've had while going to college this one has to be the worst. He gives terrible feedback on papers, and has a gruff approach to struggling students. Avoid this teacher at all costs, his lectures are boring and he is a terrible instructor and could care less what is going on in your life.

You definitely have to study for his class but if you read the book, the tests are fairly easy. He gives you practice tests before each exam and at least half the questions are on the test. He's hard to understand and somewhat unclear in lecture but I wouldn't discourage taking his class.

He's very passionate about what he teaches, and definitely knows what he's talking about. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, though he was often hard to understand and had a very weak grasp of technology other than Word Documents.

Very smart and enthusiastic professor on this topic. But his presentation and organization of the material is horrible. The notes he gives are jumbled into a huge mess difficult to read, he is hard to understand in class, and the material is complicated making this class undesirable. Tests are tough (25%,35%,45%) and you are gonna work for them.

This class was easy as long as you read the court cases, studied from the practice test and study guides he posts. He is very helpful when you go into his office hours. People who are doing poorly in the class probably do not read from the book or going to class. He does grade on a curve and tends to make mistakes but he fixes them later.

Wow. Brilliant guy, but he shouldn't be teaching. Lectures are hard to follow, TONS of grading mistakes - you can't even trust that the practice tests and study guides are correct. Avg class exam score = D. And my grade ended up being an A! I wanted to know more about this subject, but he didn't help much at all.

Hard class made even harder by this prof. His classes are extremely boring and hard to follow due to the 45 seconds it takes for him to get out a sentence. He made several mistakes on grading throughout the quarter and his notes and study guides are full of errors making them hard to understand. Stay away from this prof! Worst I've ever had!

Easily on the greatest professors I have ever had. He is misunderstood to a huge degree. His knowledge of the material he is teaching is unmatched, and his willingness to help those who seek a greater understanding was amazing. I had a class every quarter with Jim, because I knew that I would come out of it much more prepared. Amazing Professor.

His grading methods make no sense. His quiz questions are replete with typos and inconsistencies making it impossible to be graded fairly. He is boring beyond belief and clears his throat constantly. This guy should retire already.

He's an overall nice guy with good intentions but the class is impossible to stay awake through and his teaching is far from comprehensible. I'd avoid it if you can, the stutter and lip licking will get to you. On the bright side he grades on a huge curve so you wont be able to know your grade at all but your D will probably be a B or A.

inverarti is totally misunderstood. yes, his explanations can be a bit fuzzy at times. but really most of the sociology majors just asked unbelievably stupid questions and then did not actually pay attention to his answers. he is extremely smart, insightful, witty, funny, and very helpful, flexible, and understanding. go jim.

Very easy class if you do the study guides and practice tests. Thought this class would be hard because the grade is based on only 3 tests but it's not. Hated sitting through class, though. He's really hard to listen to. Mumbles a lot and doesn't cover whole lot in class because he talks so slowly.
