Does a fantastic job explaining concepts, and knows how to hold a classroom's attention. The lecture notes are far more useful than any other material. You will learn a significant amount more than is needed for the tests, don't be intimidated by the study guides.

He is a tough but fair professor, I really loved the way he taught Assembly / Comp org. Always available and helpful during office hours. I found him to be a well rounded individual as well. Pretty lecture heavy. I didn't miss a class, but I think if I did I'd definitely suffer.

Very good teacher, however few examples are given in lectures. I've read other reviews saying that he taught straight from the textbook, which really isn't true, he's not using the book, he's using slides that he wrote and then references the book for further reading. The labs are interesting and pair programming is a great way to learn.

I love Mr. Armstrong. He is absolutely my favorite professor at UNCG. He is quick to reply and is genuinely interested in your questions. Sit in the front of class. I recommend having a coding course before taking CSC130, but I didn't take one in highschool and still made an A. Lots of partner work, makes learning the material more interesting.

This class is actually intro to java. You need to have some experience before take with him. The class is harder than you expect as he teach exactly from the book. No examples.

He teaches directly from the book which is good if you can read book to understand compSci, but is horrible when you need more examples. His lectures are drop dead boooring. the course itself is listed as intro to compsci but in reality is intro to Java. take online beginners Java course before taking intro to cs with him. you will need it.

He gives amazing examples In class so make sure to go eventhough he says you're an adult and you don't have to come if you don't want to. He deserves an award!!!

Lectures reflect the reading material. Although he tends to use a lot of the same examples presented in the book, he goes over them in great detail and thoroughly explains the programming concepts. He is a very solid professor, obviously knows the material he is teaching, and you'll get the exact grade that you earn.

Armstrong is one of the nicest men I've met. Sometimes he tries to teach too much material at once and glosses over important details which he grades pretty harshly. His approach to teaching really only works on those who are dedicated to the CSC major. He's a great man, though and I can't stay mad at him 3

This professor should teach EVERY comp sci class!!! Lectures are crystal clear and the book assigned is very helpful. That's half the battle already fixed right there, just make sure to read the chapters, practice your programming at each chapter, and the lectures should actually feel like reinforcements upon what you've already done on your own.

Excellent lectures and if you read after the lecture, there is no reason you shouldn't have an A. The labs start out tough and get tougher progressively but as long as you're keeping up with the material you will be fine.

Professor Armstrong is hands down the best college professor I've ever had. He explains the material in crystal clear detail, answers every question clearly, and is always respectful to students. If possible I would take all of my CS courses with him. Tests are tough but fair and he's generous with partial credit and lectures are never boring.
