VERY DIFFICULT CLASS! Nice guy but the material he teaches is hard to grasp. He moves quickly so a lot of self teaching is required. He does however let you use a CALCULATOR on tests and he gives you a full black sheet of paper to write formulas and notes on. He wants to see you pass.

His tests are extremely difficult and seem like they are meant to trick you. He gives you a yellow sheet to use for the test to write formulas on. There is absolutely no padding in the grading and your grade is based on four tests. The class feels like an online class because almost everything must be self taught. Do not take this professor!

Overall good professor. I didn't take any pre calc or calc in high school and I'm getting good grades on tests but still harder to understand if you haven't. Lets you use a cheat sheet and calc for the test. Sets up reviews with tutors before the tests. No textbook. Can come to any other class if you can't make yours-including tests. Recommended.

What a terrible professor. It's a shame, because he is very nice. He just makes things overly difficult and unclear. He will hand you a test, say "I don't expect you to finish this", and somehow think that such teaching styles are conducive to learning. He assumes you already know way more than what would be considered reasonable. Just the worst.

Very nice man, so adorable (in a grandfather sort of way). He LOVES his students and really wants them to succeed. If you don't know any calc you may what to take pre calc or you will be lost. He makes everything very black & white, so it's easier to understand, but the topics still very hard. He assigns tutors for the class & you can visit the CTL

Troutman is probably the best teacher there is at York. His teaching style and lectures are so well-prepared. He genuinely cares. He's hard, but he gives you a cheat sheet and allows for you to use a calculator. TAKE HIM ABOVE ANYONE ELSE

Troutman is a great applied calculus prof. He explains things very well and will write out step by step examples. He also recommends a study session that basically gives you the answers to the tests. He is very helpful and a really nice guy. TAKE HIM

Calculus is not an easy subject but after his class I actually somewhat understand it. He's very well educated in his field and he makes the tools to pass the class accessible. His tests aren't too bad, he lets you use a notecard and he is super nice! If you need to take Applied Calc take him!

best teacher I ever had. Lets you have a sheet of paper to put anything on and use during the test. If you fail it's your fault. He will give any type of extra help and the tutoring services were awesome. If you work hard you'll do great!

In the beginning you won't like the class. It's not easy but Troutman is a great prof! He teaches you what you need to know, not the irrelevant information. After the first test the class gets easier and more interesting. I'd definitly reccommend him!

Difficult class but he gives every opportunity to get an A. Make sure to do the interactive powerpoint practice before the test because the test is exactly like them. He also gives a note sheet for the test so write everything down!

Hist of Math is stepping down from the 400 level to 200 or 300 level and will not try to kill you as it did to me. Math majors consider yourself lucky (see previous rating). I think the prof is okay. I think the class will become much more enjoyable when there are 3 papers instead of 5.

So easy. Gave extra credit for doing a single homework problem. Never checks homework and if he does its for extra credit. Gives lots of partial credit on test and just made class fun.

the class is hard its calcus but he is a very easy teacher. The class is extremely hard and i would have failed if not for him. Defintely recommend taking. He also shows you how to become rich. But in the end I still hate calc but would take Dr. Troutman again for any math class I need to take n he offers

nice guy, tries to make class fun, there was an unnecessary volume of work that ruined this class: 5 well researched papers 15+ pages, covers every chapter of the book, must read a chapter before each class +additional homework, be avidly prepared to regurgitate the info in a student directed discussion. the next level of high school busy work.

This guy is great, I HATED calculus prior to him, but ended up fascinated. He shows you how it can make you rich and doesn't have a bunch of BS rules- lets you use your graphing calc for everything. Awesome.

very straight forward. teaches all lessons via powerpoint. grade is on 4 tests, final not cumulative. bonus points for putting hw problems on board. Hes tough, but willing to help. very fast in grading tests, usually by the end of the day. do not try to cheat, he VIDEOTAPES the tests. decent teacher, I would take him again if I needed another math
