hands down one of the most intelligent men I have ever met; has a true mastery of his subject & zeal for teaching. Classes can be large but he works hard to make connections with those who want them. He may intro popular scholar theories & info but NEVER pushes them; instead allows you to come to your own beliefs based on pursuit of knowledge.

Comment:

Very intelligent man. Passionate about his subject matter and an excellent teacher. One of my favorite professors...and I am not a Bible or Theology major. Really makes you think,and reconsider some of your conceptions about the Bible. I didn't agree with everything he taught, but would take any of his classes in a heartbeat.

This class was my favorite this semester! Many people complain about Sparks' views, however they interested me. It was great to learn from someone whose views differed from mine! Now, my views and biblical interpretation have changed so much. Great professor... very entertaining, funny, and enthusiastic. Wanna take more of his classes just for him!

He teaches theories that make no sense and have been debunked by many other scholars. (such as the Documentary Hypothesis). As someone who came from a small school, I did not like the lecture style classes and felt it impersonal.

This man is one of the most brilliant scholars I have ever known. He knows material both within and far beyond his Theological and Biblical studies. He is also very kind and willing to take time to talk to students. Not going to lie, he's not bad on the eyes either.

I love Dr. Sparks!!! Honestly, my favorite religion prof still, even after 3 yrs @ Duke with some of the best minds in the field. Sparks is brilliant, articulates things clearly, and has a passion for his field. I loved every class I took with him @ Eastern and have appreciated his support as I moved into my graduate work!

really great professor! really funny! got me interested in biblical studies. probably the smartest man alive. test are difficult but only if you don't pay attention in class and don't do the assignments. if you do everything he asks, it's a piece of cake!

Genres of the Hebrew Bible - this class changed the way i read scripture. sparks is a a clear communicator and a great teacher. You have to work in his classes, but they will likely change your life. He'll literally spend hours with you if you so desire!

He's like Mr. Rodgers and Mr.Garrison from South Park put together. He is a good teacher but his test are VERY VERY hard. And he assigns homework called position papers due before every class. If you have him just study a long time for the tests
