Professor Braxton is awe inspiring. Those who do not like her tend to do so because of the structure and the level of excellence she expects from her students. She caused me to think on a much higher level, and she truly changed my life.

She was unbelievably rude to me on several occasions. I don't hear well out of one ear and if I asked her to repeat something she would act like I was stupid. Besides that she was just very opinionated and unhelpful. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Can't believe my tuition pays her.

Professor Braxton is one of the best professors I've ever had @ W & M. She's passionate and inspired me to continue reading the authors she taught me, and now I'm going to teach them myself. I feel like I owe her a lot, because she gave me so much

Terrible! Narrow minded and God help you if you disagree with her (and you probably will, because she's for the most part dead wrong). She had one middle-of-the-pack idea, 30 years ago, and is now riding it into the ground, shrilly demanding unearned respect.

AVOID! Strongly-opinionated. If your opinions do not match hers, it will be reflected in your grade. Eng 207was purely related to black struggles and the connections she tries to form in class are weak and incoherent. She will frequently miss class, but for every class missed by a student a half-letter grade is taken from your final grade. AVOID!!

Ughh. Avoid at all costs! Not a bad person, just a bad professor. The worst combination of opinionated-yet-stupid. And a dinosaur, as far as her area of expertise. Like some '80s Pop band (think, e.g., Journey). Sort of fun, but hopelessly out of date and irrelevant). She'd be kind of funny if she weren't so sad, the way she's been left behind.

Comment:
Braxton is awful! Comes unprepared to class, confuses names of characters in novels, hypocritical with double standards for students vs. herself, wasteful with class time, stubborn, and does not give helpful comments on papers. Good luck if you have her...

Comment:
Overall, this class comes off as a Black Literature class rather than an American Writers class. She ties everything to social struggle and black literature; that's what she's passionate about. Therefore, the class discussion is interesting but monotonous. Also, its hard to gauge how you're doing.

the class is not too hard, but she's a killer when it comes to grades. i worked my butt off and still got a b. just make sure you come to class on time and whenever you say something, make sure you can back it up and it's not total bs.

Speaking as a non-English major, this was a pretty good course. She is willing to help 1 on 1 and a very understanding person. She'll respect you if you respect the class. Themes in the class got to be repetitive and one-sided, but still a good class.

Very unorganized, uninspiring, overall just bad. Prof. Braxton is probably one of the worst professors in the English department. The class is easy, and lacks intellectual stimulation. I got the feeling that the professor was perhaps not the smartest.

Braxton, a brilliant woman, exemplifies what a college professor should be. She rarely answers emails, but is willing to help you out when she can. Working hard and establishing a rappore is essential to success.

She is usually helpful with writing when you go and see her, but always pretentious. For a major American writers class there should have been more diversity in the reading (not all of American literature is about racism).

Profesor Braxton is by no means an easy professor. She is intersting and takes time to get the students interested. It isn't hard to get an A if you work for it or pay attention.
