Joe is a great prof. He knows what he is talking about and challenges his students and is ok with being challenged by students. He wants you to think in this class and because of that I was always engaged. I looked forward to coming to this class and hearing him lecture, which is unusual. If you can take JOMC 487 with Joe, take it.

How can you not like a professor that makes great jokes in class? Joe cares about education and cares about the actual application of education to the real world.

Professor Starita was one of the better professors I have had at CoJOMC. His lectures always helped me look at things in different perspectives and he really tried to get to know all 110 (or so) of us--not even kidding! He was always inspirational and knows his stuff. If you do the readings and participate/listen in class, you'll be fine.

I loved this class and loved Starita! If he taught all classes in the j school I would love every class. You could tell he respected our opinions and genuinely cared about all of us. The class is so interesting and his hilarious personality makes it even better. I could never see the "mean" side that so many people on here claimed in reviews.

He came off as a real hardo in the beginning. Dude said he would f-ing kill us if we used our cell phones so we all thought this dude meant business. Turns out he was the nicest guy ever and really cared about us as people. Show up to class, pay attention and you will thoroughly enjoy it. He's a funny character.

He is absolutely incredible. He's nice, he cares, and he as an inspiring amount of experience. By far the best professor I have had at UNL. Even if you don't get an A, you still learn a lot and learn to think in new ways. He's wonderful- just take his class and take advantage of what he has to offer.

This class is ok. He LOVES to ramble, & doesn't give any kind of powerpoint/notes to take from, so you'll be scrambling to write down everything that he says. He does call people out and belittle them somewhat, but I think it's all in good humor. The class isn't very well structured -- you'll mainly be reading & listening to his ramblings in class.

Prof. Starita's class was definitely one of the best I've taken at UNL. He genuinely asks how we're doing (in class and life), makes the tests clear and gives leeway on answers if we have a good explanation for ours. He is super inspirational and makes you want to be a better journalistperson. Take ethics from him if you want to improve your life.

Awesome teacher. His class is very hard, but I learned the most from it. He's always willing to review your writing if you go into office hours.

Plenty of comments on papers to help you improve, but he often comes across as mean. Willing to yell and belittle. I learned, but didn't like the class. Honestly, I was a bit scared of him. Some people love him though. I guess it's all or nothing with Starita.

The class is very tough to start with, you gradually get the hang of the way to write a story as the year moves on. News quizzes are tough every monday, and the class can get long and boring since its over 2 hours. Take this class only if you are a journalism major.

NewsNet can be an intimidating class by itself. I had Joe as one of my instructors. He is a difficult professor because he knows you can always produce better work and he's right. I may not have aced the class, but I became a much better writer from it. Take anything you can learn from him. He's amazing!

He expects a lot out of his students, but is a very good teacher. Gives out plenty of examples of the kind of writing we are to work toward achieving and is usually available to talk. Walks around the j-school a lot. Takes his time grading assignments and gives helpful feedback.

He thinks he's the news director for a large paper when in reality he's a teacher for a cruddy school paper no one reads. He chooses favorites and if you EVER miss his class, be prepared to be chewed out. It doesn't matter if you had a funeral to attend or if you're sick. He abuses his power and belittles students. DON'T take any of his classes.

He's unprofessional and broke my desire to learn. I was a favorite for the first portion of the semester, but he told me I was crap the second portion. I would avoid him like the plague. I love writing, but his constant negative reaction to everything I did was more than disheartening. He yelled at me on more than one occasion. Not professional!
