You get what you bring in life. If you come to the table open to what is being unfolded before you, you might come away with something precious. I still think of Joe Steinke's class from years ago. He made me a more critical thinker. He was fair and genuine.

Mr. Steinke means well, but the world has passed him by. Still, hearing about his experiences as a Trappist monk is worth taking one of his courses. He knew Thomas Merton, and evidently didn't care for him much.

Joe is nice, but I've never experienced lectures that are such time-wasters. He doesn't cover the material very well; he just goes off on tangents. His tests are multiple choice, and he gives out fair study guides a week before each test. The essay isn't bad, and if you're good at taking tests, you really don't need the lectures at all.I got an A.

Cls is ok if you hv a open mind. He almost got himself into trouble becuz he can be old skool rude w/ mouth. Gives study guide to tests but u hv to write ppr to get an A (with avg. of 90 on tsts) His only reminder of ppr due date is on attendance sheet!!! Who the hell notices the first line of an attendance sheet?! Just becareful with him.

I took his class last semester and honestly, I hated it. I thought the class would be interesting but if you get up to use the bathroom, he will stop class to call you out then say you're distracting the class. Horrible writing and rants about his own life rather than the topic. Horrible experrience.

If you are analytical or don't really have an open-mind, you are going to struggle for a bit. It's important to speak up in class too. Don't trust his study-guides because it more than that, you have to know the details. Take detailed notes. He's mean but you can learn why he is like that. Overall, interesting class but not easy.

Took him for philosophy 101, 110 and about to take him for 112. Changed my life from the day I took him, his grading is extremely fair, 4-5 tests given, study guides before hand. Do the study guide, read the book to some extent, you can ace the test. But its just more then that, its more then just a classroom, its a life-long learning experience.

Mr Steinke is an awesome teacher and person. I took his class 10 years ago and I still think about him and still use some of the things he taught us. His life experience is very relevant and he knows his stuff. He also makes controversial statements which ruffle the feathers so class is always interesting.

Took him years ago, upon advice from my mother and brother, who he had a profound impact on. They were right; he also changed my view of life, opened up a new world. Taught us it was ok to THINK about what we were told we could never question. Amazing man, a real gem for an unassuming college. I took all of his courses. Thanks, Mr. Steinke!!

Interesting class. Some discussions were boring, others were very interesting and insightful. Note: if you want an A, you need to write a decent paper. If you're getting a B or lower, you don't have to write one if you're satisfied with your grade. If you want to maintain your A, write the paper. Other than that. Getting a B is easy.

This guy is literally 80 some years old. He's not here to take BS from students, just to tell you about what he knows. He's blunt, honest, and funny. If your sensitive don't take his class. Do study guide, easy A. He's not God, he's just teaching what he's learned, and if he's wrong he's happy to have your point of view on it. He's a cool old guy.

Asks illegal test questions like "Can a person not have a religion and still be happy?" If you answer "yes" you lose points. He also got many important details about real religions wrong; prepare to defend yourself if you are Buddhist or Hindu! If you must take this class, please complain to the administration if he does this kind of thing to you.

I imagine Mr. Steinke is a good teacher for philosophy, but avoid his religions classes. He argued with students about the facts of their own religion, he did not handle discussions very well since the class would argue about "what is religion", went off topic a lot. I did not learn a thing, which is sad b/c i was interested in this class.

He's the coolest old geezer ever. Really wise. Has a sense of humor & it's easy to figure out what he wants from you. Likes to talk about current issues and sometimes veers away from philosophy (ancient or not). Yet, still a fun & rewarding class & GREAT teacher. He cares about your edu.

This guy's hella funny! He makes fun of everyone, it's hilarious. His tests are a pain though, I couldn't get above a frustrating 89%! But it's impossible to hate him because he's old and loveable haha
