Comment:
Professor Meehan is a good lecturer and is very insightful in her office hours. Her grading is not too harsh and definitely seek her out for insight into your writing for drafts. Interesting reading is also a plus. Doesn't give out a lot of reading. No qualms, would recommend for intro philosophy.

Comment:
Lecture a little bit but great at leading discussions around readings. Kind grader (1 exam and 2 essays) for an intro class. Very helpful in office hours especially if you are interested and plan to major in philosophy. Class materials also include philosophy of race and gender besides "canonical" western philosophy. Sarcastic (which is a plus).

Probably one of the better professors at the College. Quite good at moderating and leading discussion. Moderately challenging in Introduction to Philosophy.

The worst teacher I ever had at Grinnell. Inexplicably went from an A- to a D with a single paper, which was mathematically impossible. She refused to discuss the paper, which did not actually have a grade on it. Additionally, she had the worst class sessions of any prof I had in college. One class she said "there's a way in which" 37 times.

if you're a misogynist, only care about your grades, or aren't willing to accept that all teacher's have their own agendas, don't take her class. But if you're excited about learning the subject matter and want to be challenged, meehan is ideal. she is brilliant, honest, rebellious, and genuinely cares about the topics and about her students.

She made classes interesting because of her funny explanations, but I still didn't learn much and she was a rather unfair grader. I disagreed with many of her corrections. She doesn't actually want to you analyze the text, despite her instructions. Won't listen to other opinions.

Pleasant and nice she may be, but she's not the clearest lecturer out there. Her attempts to make complex concepts understandable may in fact obfuscate them because sometimes they are not adequately precise.

Hard-core feminist who seems to inspire many people. I thought she was trapped by her own ethical concerns, and unable to teach an idea w/out subsuming it under her feminist agenda. She may entertain you, but don't take her intro course if you are looking for a straightforward explication of philosophy's most important concepts.

Brilliant! One of the most intelligent people I have ever met. Very well rounded. Will incorporate many disciplines and practical matters into philosophy or any topic at hand. Read some Susan Bordo and if you like it, you'll love Meehan.
