The best professor I have ever had. I shed a tear during his last lecture. The passion he shows towards teaching his students is unmatched. I learned so much and he made everything I've learned in chemical engineering come back to mind. He stays on campus all day, every day with door always open. Elroy and Der Schlaue Det will be truly missed.

Had him for CE408 Plant Design class. Hands down the best educator, honest and extremely enthusiastic about engineering! Absolute gem in UB that just makes the whole program worth it. He's there to make sure you actually understand what chemical engineering is all about, an educator who genuinely wants his students to learn and become honest ppl!

I took CE408 plant design with him and he is probably the best one I had in my whole undergraduate study. He teaches with great passion and sense of humor, and is always -- as long as he is in his office, often till 23:00 or 24:00 -- to help you and really expects you to do well in whatever he assigns. My hat off to Elroy(Prof. Nitsche).

This professor taught the class that was the grand finale of my experience as a CE major. He's ridiculously smart and weird, but in the entertaining kind of way. The homeworks, tests, and design project are insanely difficult and time consuming, but he was in his office till late every night to help us. Johannes/Elroy our hats are off to you!

The guy is the epitome of nerd. But he teaches concisely and really well. Be prepared for long homework assignments, often due the next class - but it's well worth it. By the time exams come 'round, you'll be so used to doing problems that it'll be a piece of cake.
