Comment:
Disappointing class. He talks too much and does not lets his students express themselves freely. Loves to intimidate people in front of others in the class. Yes, he gives great feedback on papers and is available outside of class, but he would still barely let you do the talking and you would just be forced to do what he wants. Grades take FOREVER.

I took Professor Alcorn's "The Godfather: The Art of Hard Choices" class during J-Term 2016. He was a very lucid and very effective lecturer...I highly recommend taking this class!

His FYSM, Prohibitions, was very interesting and engaging. Class discussions were great and sometimes got heated with the topics we debated. Overall a great class with a great professor. As long as you write solid papers (aprx. every two weeks), and attend every class, you will get an A.

Professor Alcorn is easily the best teacher I have had at Trinity. I know he hates this website to no end but I couldn't help wanting to let incoming classes know how great he is. I have taken 4 of his classes and he even convinced me to become an Italian major. He cares more about his students and the school in general than anyone on campus.

He was boring but easy. More than a little punitive if you disagreed.

Absolutely amazing! Very knowledgable about a fascinating subject. One of the leading experts in the world about the mafia. Uses a variety of methods to encourage learning- movies, interviews, student presentations, and guest lecturers. Not much work- 4 3 page papers and 1 presentation - and all of them are graded generously

Great guy to take a class with, I've taken two so far in college career. Very intelligent guy and very accessible outside the classroom. A lot of assigned readings that don't have to all be completed however he a big portion of his grade for essay deal with using the assigned material. 5 total papers for the semester at 5 pages a piece.

Better as a seminar teacher, can't really hold the attention of 40 kids for 75 minutes, but an easy grader and a great guy, take a class with him if you can

Professor Alcorn has been a father figure to me throughout my first year experience. His passion and mastery of the assigned material is unsurpassed, and he goes above and beyond in making sure his students succeed both in and out of the classroom. Great professor, great man, highly recomended.

Professor Alcorn is the MOST accessible professor by far. When meeting with him about writing a paper, he'll make sure you leave with a clear outline of what to write. The class discussions/debates were interesting, as were the readings. The way Alcorn analyzes movies really changes your outlook on famliar films you may have seen before.

Great guy, very helpful and concerned, highly intelligent but absent minded in lectures. Interesting materials. I did WANT to do the reading. Take good notes, crack the books and Blackboard-a couple of days before each paper is due, use indexes, materials are very well organized so this is easy. Read Underboss, awesome!! Course needs streamlining.
