Briley is...a bit clueless. "American Foreign Policy" was actually just "The History of War" with zero diplomacy involved. He must be akin to the Bush family of Texas because he looks, speaks, and acts just like them. He gets giddy talking about the guns used in war and tests can be studied for by watching The Military Channel.

Get ready to teach yourself because his lectures are pointless. I had to study my butt off to get a decent grade. Exams are over nothing he talked about. they were over everything in the book that he maybe referenced two times the whole semester. No other grades were taken besides quizzes and exams. Never took attendance. He has great knowledge tho

Dr. Briley expects the students to read the material before class. That was what I found it to be key to passing his class. I reread the assignments which made the lectures much easier to understand. He was also extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to if I had questions. Overall a good professor.

Take Briley! Very smart guy, and great if you need a break for back breaking courses. Don't get me wrong though. You will learn a lot. Just study for the tests and speak up in class until he knows you by name, and everything will be just fine.

Dr. Briley is a good guy. Lecture isn't really his strongpoint and he knows it, so he encourages discussion. He has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of American politics during the 60's, 70's & 80's, especially southern politics. Laid back prof., and a rare conservative in a department of lefties. Study for the 3 or 4 exams and an A is easy.

Most classes are just current event discussions...usually in some way relates to the class, though not all the time. He tests from the book but you don't use it in class. I made an A and I rarely attended. Funny guy and one of the few conservative PSCI professors. I would definitely recommend.

The desks in his classrooms are not high chairs, and he refuses to spoon feed information to you. If you choose to utilize your critical reading skills (this means reading the words in the books and attempting to understand them), then he will be more than happy to meet you half-way.
