Comment:

Jack is a good professor, so long as you blindly agree with his very strong, liberal opinions about almost everything. Discussions can be as open for "debate" as he is willing to allow, and he tends to take needing to miss a class as a personal affront. All in all, the course material was very interesting, but he could tone down the arrogance.

The worst professor, and the even worst advisor. Very opinionated and the worst listener I have ever met in my whole life. He had turned into a robot after being in this position for so long. He thinks its a formula and everybody should follow it. Education major is about being helpful, not about being right all the time.

Professor Dougherty is really into education which is a good thing but if you are not into it on the same level as he is, you're probably not going to do too well. His class is early in the morning far away from most of the residence halls and after a few weeks with him, I had no motivation to go sit in that class.

Jack is a tough grader and expects good analytical thinking. That being said his criteria are always crystal-clear and straightforward. He is engaging in class and tries to make the material as fun for students as possible. Generally picks favorites but all you have to do is answer a few questions in class and he'll love you.

He can be really mean. Classes are incredibly boring. You will not learn very much in this course, but you will get to work on some cool, real-life projects (although much of it will be busywork that serves his own interests). He has students grade each other on participation, so make sure to be over-prepared for class and suck up to classmates.

TRINITY NEEDS HIM BACK!! Great Professor!! Too bad he isn't teaching now...I want to take more classes with him! Very clear -- very fair to his students (grades papers without looking at students names)! You do the reading, participate and do the papers -- get an A.

If your young and really enjoy the education field, you will like his class. If your not then don't take it, unless your ready for an uphill battle. The older students I spoke with, all felt the same way...we were just a waist of his time.

Very fair in grading, lectures are clear, but make sure you read the assignments or otherwise you will have problems understanding what he is talking about. Lots of reading...but manageable! Fun class too.

Fantastic class and professor. We learned a lot (e.g. policy, law, and even technical skills). Field trips and discussions with the authors of our books were common. Jack was extremely helpful and a clear and engaging professor. This is one of the best seminars I've ever had.

Jack is an awesome guy. If your remotely interested in education, be sure to take 1 of his courses. Def not a "bird course" so be sure to work hard for your grade. Really gets us involved in class. GREAT books! Make use 2 c him. Be sure to back up your claims. Just dont expect him 2 read ur stuff ahead of time. Present it 2 him and he'll help

Despite what others say, Jack can't possibly pick favorites because he grades anonymously- you put your name on the back. Also, he was a poor undergraduate student himself and therefore sees potential in EVERYONE. He will push you- so push back! He is THE BEST PROF ON THIS CAMPUS.

Jack creates a very tense and competitive atmosphere. He didn't like me, but with two TA's also grading, I think my grade was almost fair -- he could have gone a half-grade either way and he chose the lower, but as I said, he basically wanted me to disappear. He definitely had favorites.

jack can be a bully in the classroom- dont raise your hand unless youve got something brilliant to say. he's always available for extra help, but it is still SUPER tough to get an A on his papers. My advice, do all the readings on time, go to class, and get extra help before papers

He explains expectations clearly and is willing to help. It is not only a sit down and listen class. He makes students participate as much as possible. Grades fair overall.
