tests are extremly long and hard, how must know EVERYTHING. His class is very good though, but when I went to see him in his office hours he didn't help me that much. Textbook is great.

His tests are HARD, if you want to take this class you have to put in the work. His lectures are sometimes hard to follow because it is all talking and no slides but he really knows his stuff and is very funny and entertaining every class.

Dr.Esling is such a knowledgeable professor. His lectures are hard to follow at times and he is very vague when you ask him questions or about the test. With a little help from the TA this past year, I think the class will get alot better. He has a great sense of humour and it pays to get engaged in the class and to use the TA for any futher ?'s.

Well, the tests are extremely long and hard (all essay and short answer questions). It is an interesting class, but it is challenging and a bit disorganized. Don't take this class unless you love phonetics!

An excellent scholar. I have a lot of respect for this man. He's very bright and also modest. In fact, he is the ONLY one I would ever study applied linguistics under at UVIC.

Absolutely brilliant, in both his knowledge of the speech mechanism AND his ability to sound just like Sean Connery. If you shamelessly laugh at corny jokes, Esling is for you. Memorize your diagrams!
