Dr. Fendrick knows the in's and out's of Latin. Lectures can be dry. There is a lot of repetition which is helpful when learning a language. Show up to class and volunteer to answer questions and he will give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to your final grade. Very helpful during office hours.

Literally one of the best professors I've taken. Nicest guy ever, really cares about his students. Can be difficult because it's a tough language but the tests are extremely reasonable. A must take

He is one of the most helpful teachers here at USD. He really makes sure his students know their stuff. His lectures are clear and he tells you what will be on each test. You do have to put in the work since latin is a hard subject. I would highly suggest taking him.

As someone who rarely went to class for both Second Semester Greek and Third Semester Greek, I can honestly say that I regret being so absent because my grade suffered dramatically. Go to class, do the assignments, and listen to him. This stuff is hard and he stopped giving me mercy when I completely stopped caring.

I've taken him for Greek for 3 semesters, so I tried him for Latin as well. Still awesome! I prefer Greek as a language, but his qualities as a professor still shine through, despite the larger class size.

Amazing person, all around. Really helps everyone get the basics of the language and is passionate about having a relationship with the students. Tests are mostly vocab based with translation sections. God bless his extra credit sections, too. Easy class if you study, pay attention, and attend class

Awesome teacher! He's so nice and soft-spoken. Greek is a tough language and you go through a lot pretty quickly, but it's not too bad. Quizzes once every 1-2 weeks that are small, with extra credit for word origins offered every time. Homework not really mandatory, but pretty necessary to learn. If you're interested in Greek he's a great prof.

Really, really good teacher. Super passionate about the class and his students learning, not just passing the class. Super easy A for students who have studied Latin before, easy A for those who have not. Nice man, really sweet, and actually cares about his students. Clever jokes too.

I took three semesters of Latin and with Dr. Fendrick. Then I took one semester of Greek to take it him. He is an amazing professor who really knows what he is talking about and cares about whether you are learning. He is really helpful both in class and in office hours. I would be taking more classes with him if I hadn't graduated.

This is regarding Greek I, II, & III: Fendrick is certainly a credit to USD. He makes a very difficult language fun to learn by being patient and relaxed in class. He also throws in Greek mythology and his eclectic life stories, so it's not just straight language the whole time. He cares about his students more than any professor I've had.

Not only the best professor you will have while at USD, but one of the most wise, experienced people you will meet in your life. He speaks like 7 or 8 languages, is well traveled, and has the best sense of humor. I honestly cannot say enough good things about him, and he goes far above and beyond what it means to be an educator.

Professor Fendrick is unquestionably USD's best teacher. He takes a fairly obscure and difficult subject (be it Latin, Greek or whatever) and turns it into something that is accessible. He is incredibly thoughtful and nice. USD is blessed to have him.

Nicest man you'll ever meet. He goes out of his way to help his students. He is by far one of my favorite teachers of all time. You really learn the material and he explains everything very well. He always asks the student when they want to take tests. Never gets angry, he just smiles and laughs at you.
