it is not easy but if you listened and focused in his lectures it is not hard to get an A especially that there are no exams or quizzes which is awesome. the group project was a little bit confusing but I had A on each preproposal and the proposal itself, he helped us a lot and he looks at a good source of literature. TAs are helpful and respected

He's a nice guy,but he'll never answer your emails/meeting requests/pleas for help. My clicker wouldn't work for his class but worked in everyone else's. He pretty much said "that's weird" and didn't do anything about it. The stupid PackBack site he loves is glitchy and unreliable; an exercise in tedium.

Truly cares about the students understanding of whichever topic is being discussed. Very organized and to the point. Pays very close attention to detail.

Gray is a sweet man with great intentions but has no sense of urgency. Never graded assignments and was very bad at communicating; I dont think he answers a single email he is sent.

Dr. Gray's a great teacher! His passion for genetics is contagious and he is very open to questions and explains thoroughly. One thing though, if you passionately oppose GMOs I'd stay away from arguing it lol ;) class is moderately difficult, not too bad.

His class is a flipped classroom, so if you love teaching yourself... You have to watch the 1.5 hr lecture before class, do book problems, do mastering genetics (online hw), and do a discussion post (packback). You have to do all that twice a week. He seems like a cool person, but awful teacher. (I'm generally an A+ student)

Very fair teacher. His online lectures were pretty informative. Youll need to read the book as well though. Tests were average difficulty. Offers help sessions before the tests. Class is a reversed class so he answers students questions in lecture. I would take him again for genetics

Take him, he's a great teacher. No extra credit but he drops the two lowest hw scores. Make sure you read the book for exams. And the final has questions that are exactly the same as the first exams.

I have to say that I'm not a fan of the flipped classroom since you have to spend more time than is necessary. You have to do the normal textbook reading outside of class as well as listening to long lectures in your free time. Gray sometimes tests over specific concepts, but overall is pretty clear. Would have liked a lot more if not flipped!

He's super friendly and passionate, and very good at breaking down tough concepts. Some practical advice: Classroom is flipped: Lectures online, Discussions in class. You must attend 50% of discussions to pass. Exams are about two thirds homework questions and old exam questions (which he gives out) USE THEM. Textbook isn't very useful.

Exams are poorly worded, and course is flipped, so you listen to lectures at home and go to class and discuss 6-7 multiple choice questions for 1 hour & 15 minutes. Exams are worth 90% of your entire grade, so make sure that you focus on those when they come up. Material isn't impossible, but the ambiguity on exams makes it near impossible.

When you're scheduling classes and you see Dr. Gray's name listed as teaching the course, TAKE IT WITH HIM. He is a passionate man who cares so much about his students and is passionate about corn. You'll learn so much from him.

Exams are impossible, and they're the bulk of the grade in the course. He has a flipped class, where you watch lectures at home, but then the exams are not based off what you go over in class. Too hard.

I thought he was really great. I've heard the lab is demanding compared to others, but I didn't think it was bad. 3 lab reports that were long and a group project, but if you put the effort in it is a really great lab. Computer assignments are annoying though. John Gray tries to be funny and make lectureslab enjoyable and helpful. Good natured guy

I had him for Genetics lab and it was pretty difficult. He doesn't really explain what he is looking for in the lab reports, so definitely go to his office hours for help. If you are a biology major, I recommend you take a different biology lab. This class is too much work for a two credit hour. Do not take unless required!

Great teacher. The material does require some studying though. Dr. Gray posted all lectures online. I found this incredibly helpful, as I could now go back and listen to his lectures as slowly as I wanted. Do his practice tests and go to the practice sessions and you're good to go!

Show up to the optional problem solving sessions and show that you care about your grade. Saying your willing to put in the effort is a lot different then actually showing it. Good professor overall but his labs suck.
