Prof -Teaches you to be analytical. Read the cases assigned, show up to class & ask questions about the case you do not understand. Begin to think like a lawyer from day one, deconstruction the argument in the case, to decide whether the argument made was good lawyering. Enjoyed thinking like a lawyer rather than accepting the Judge's rationale.

Don't expect to learn anything. I spent the entire semester playing on my computer. I read for the first month and then gave up because reading was pointless. Just get a good outline for the final, which was a take-home exam.

There was one statement made during my time at UBLaw that stuck with me through my litigation practice: Get off your hind legs and make a sound like a lawyer. Regardless of anything else, Schlegel has my thanks for that bit of advice.

Honestly, I hated the class when I first started, I'm not a law student, I was taking the honors seminar he teaches. I though it was useless, but by the end of it, I really liked it. This class honestly gave me more than any other class, I write and participate much better solely because of this class. Definitely recommend, and guaranteed A.

I am not a law student, and this was not a law class. This class, Telling Stories/ Seeing Stories, was probably one of my most enjoyable classes all semester. Schlegel is really funny and easy going. I was really impressed by the quality of discussion he facilitated and I was surprised by how much I learned by the end of the semester.

He has a different teaching/lecture style which seems useless until you realize that his method actually teaches you how to be analytical and think about the law beyond just briefing a case. I wish I knew how valuable his lectures were while I was in the class.

Schlegel doesn't care whether or not you learn contracts. He is content with holding a room hostage for two hours while they watch as he takes a steaming dump.

Contracts-Don't expect to learn anything that will be tested on the bar. That's not his goal in teaching. He was more interested in getting the class to read between the lines of the case to find out what prompted it to be filed in the first place. This is a helpful exercise for critical analysis but not for learning basics of Contract law.

i am in 17th grade and this was the worst professor i have ever had for anything. you will learn nothing for the bar exam, or even for your own exam. no contract doctrine taught at all - just his own philosophical thoughts on "what it means to be a lawyer"

I was sick to my stomach when I got to bar review 2 years after taking this class. I learned NOTHING from this fool. He spent more than half the semester talking about a case involving chickens. I would have been better off getting root canal for 3 continuous months.

wow i wish i would have read these comments before i signed up for his useless class. this 68 year old geriatric needs to retire like a decade ago. his classes are ridiculous, uesless, and he is incredibly rude and direspectful... in short he should have retired a long time ago, but that assumes he was EVER a good teacher.

So arrogant he'd be laughing giddily as he read all these comments. Good for some laughs and public humiliation. At least the misery is spread fairly among all the students.

all over the place! he loves people who think outside the box and has a very eclectic method of teaching. bases his lecture (if you want to call it that) on questions posed by the class - more practice driven than doctrine. should not be teaching first year students! interesting guy who curses and throws tantrums priding himself in being unique :(

Okay, he's a little nuts, but obviously intelligent. If you don't ask questions, class went no where. I didn't really learn anything about civil procedure, but I was at least entertained. You didn't have to do any reading or go to any classes to be able to take the exam - so it was easy in that respect. His grading seems very random.

I agree with the "mouth without a brain" comment; this guy is a moron, teaches absolutely nothing, and has nothing helpful to say. Bring your laptop to class so you'll have something to do while he rambles.
