Comment:
Do not take Dr. Kolen for Applications of Discrete Structures (COT 3100). He doesn't bother teaching you the material; you have to read the book, do all the examples, and all the homework yourself. In other words, you have to teach yourself because he doesn't come to class with anything prepared. Tests are pretty difficult too!

The only way to see your grade is if you have eLearning with the class. Tough tests, not much of a curve, and he is not very good at explaining the material.

Not many good things to say about this class. Each student was required to write an adventure game, as a course project, then in the last two weeks form teams to complete the project. Teams should have been formed at beginning. Doesn't express concepts well in that I wasn't sure what he was seeking for an answer. Assumes too much.

Took a while to adjust to his teaching style. He expects you to ask a lot of questions. Read the material and start on the projects *before* class, then ask lots of questions about them. He doesn't present much info on his own, but will give good answers to lots of questions.

Never answers email. Late to class a lot. Doesn't really show how to put stuff in a program just explains the concept mainly. I wouldn't take another class taught by him.

Although Java is not an advanced class, this teacher seemed to spend a bit too much time explaining simple concepts, which can make his class boring. However, this teacher will bend over backwards to help you with the any problem you may have
