One of the few people in my life that has permeated his energy into mine. He is a great teacher, often inspiring and intriguing artists of all walks. I spent a summer auditing his course in Italy, and he knows how to connect everybody to everyone. Highly recommend.

A decent teacher, the one annoying thing he does is give very vague assignments, then if he doesn't like the way you put your own spin on it grades poorly. If he was more specific I would have gotten more out of it. Basically be super creative and it should be okay. Fun guy with lots of interesting stories to tell.

John was an awesome teacher! He has very thorough knowledge with film and shows great interests in helping students who show interest and passion in the subject. Super nice guy and you really have to do something wrong to get him mad. He also helped me get an awesome internship for the Summer working with huge huge companies . TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

Murphy is open to suggestions about his classes pulls out all the stops for students who show an interest and are willing to put forth some effort. The only advice worth giving: Arrive to class on time. Take initiative. Hand in your work on time. Put some thought into what you hand in. And never ever fall asleep in class.

One of the best. He only teaches one day a week, and you can tell he does it because he wants to, not because he needs to. Very intelligent and open to all different styles. He knows so much about film is great to talk to. He takes a genuine interest in every student, as long as you do your work. Kind of cute, too.

One of the best teachers I've had thus far at Pratt. I learned more about film in one semester of this class than I did all of last year. John is very helpful and is willing to help each student indvidually, and it doesn't hurt that he actually seems to enjoy teaching, making class that much more fun. Highly recommended.

One of my best teachers so far at Pratt. Makes this class fun and really tries to stick up for the students against the film office and faculty. If you do your assignments on time, you will do well in his class. Made me not mind so much spending all my money on film every two weeks. Highly recommend

Not only is this man a working professional, he's an artist. He has time for everyone. He's encouraging, and inspires his students to aspire to full creative potential. If you work hard in his class it can only be rewarding. And he's pretty cool.
