NOT a good teacher. Unclear deadlines, boring and unchallenging fill-in-the-blank assignments, and lifeless lectures filled with copying down definitions and being expected to complete his very vague sentences. He's a sweet man and great in the Writing Center, but I wouldn't recommend him as a professor.

Don't take this class with Perron -- take it with Rist. He's a very smart man, but his teaching style leaves will make even the most patient student rage. I'd like to tell you how he grades, but I'm halfway through the semester and still haven't gotten my first essay back. TAKE IT WITH RIST.

Terrible teaching method--expects students to read his mind. Doesn't stick to the syllabus. Emails randomly, usually late at night, assigning extra work that isn't on the syllabus or discussed in class. Never returns papers or posts grades. Confusing and difficult to follow in lectures. Interesting information, but he really ruins it.

Brilliant man who knows everything about theories of rhetoric and composition. Unfortunately, his teaching style is hard to follow, and he makes the material harder to understand in the way he teaches it. You better know the MLA handbook by heart if you want to be successful in his class. Always take notes; he gets pissed quite often if you don't.

A brilliant, dynamic teacher who shapes minds. Being in his class is like watching a really intense ping-pong match. I'll always be grateful to Brother John; his writing instruction helps me every day even now. He's an amazing instructor, and he's also a very fine person.
