He is a very smart man and knows what he's talking about. However, he does NOT know how to communicate the subject in a clear way. He talks down to students and if you go to his office hours for help all he does is focus on the way you speak and corrects your grammar as you talk. I have never been so disrespected by a teacher.

Horrible professor. Never have had problems with any professor before, but he is arrogant/condescending and completely unclear about how to be graded. The class is tough no matter what, so I would strongly advise not to take it with him

Dr. Reinard is amazingly smart and finds is necessary to remind you of that continuously throughout the class. The book is mandatory and he wrote it so make sure you know the definitions WORD FOR WORD from the text because that is what he is looking for. Test are multiply choice but ridiculous! 80 fill in questions and 4 boxes filled with words...

not a bad class to take but defiantly not as fun or interesting as i had expected. very laid back, grades tough though. rambles alot about old movies kind of annoying. test are ridiculous most complicated tests i've ever taken. only a midterm final and 2 small speeches.

This is not an easy class, and Dr. R. expects you to achieve at a high level. You will be challenged, but you will become a better writer, and better student for taking his class. If you have trouble, go see him, and he is happy to help you. Do no be afraid of what you read about him, he is an amazing teacher, with tons of knowledge to share.

BOGUS. I don't recommend this, and only Reinard teaches it. His class lectures have NOTHING to do with the class. The class is about American speeches, yet he does not teach us how to analyze or evaluate them. No one knew what to expect from his papers, and we barely used the book. He grades like a PhD or honors course, and is way vague

Dr. Reinard's expectations are very unrealistic and exceptionally hard! He takes a difficult subject matter and makes it even harder. Be prepared to be confused! Nothing is concrete. I recommend visiting him during office hours if you have questions on the papers.He is helpful and pleasant, but that is it!He will discourage you away from your major

Fairly funny in the beginning, but then you start to notice that he isn't really teaching much (in class). It's almost pointless to go to class, but it's important that you do because he randomely gives quizes and assignments. My biggest problem is not keeping up with the reading. If you read along, you should be fine. He grades really tough!!!

I have never taken a class with such a rigorous professor. I think Reinard is a very intelligent man but his teaching skills are horrible. He is not helpful at all if you go to his office hours. Dr. Reinard is really tough. Tough grader, tough standards. Other reviewers...I hear what you're saying, but I've learned more in this class than most of my other classes. I really wanted to learn to write well and I think I have. And he does grade on a curve. In the end, you're always surprised at how well you do in his classes.

I am a senior at cal state fullerton and i have never had a problem obtaining good grades (A's and B's) in classes as well as having professors offer me recommendations. Dr. Reinard is not helpful nor encouraging. I never mind talking to professors but he proves to be unhelpful and demeaning. NOT helpful. only makes you feel less about your self.

OK Dr. Reinard is super-intellegent and passionate about Speech. His lectures are very interesting, but I don't even know if I'm going to pass. If you go to his office hours don't expect easy answers, he makes you work for them. I agree with most of the other reviews. If I do take 300 again, I'll probably take it with him.

He is a very nice person, but as a teacher for an undergraduate class he overteaches! Teaches on a near Ph.D. level! I have never received less than a B on any paper, yet in HCOM 300 received a C on the first paper. DO NOT TAKE 300 WITH REINARD. I believe he doesnt help students prepare for the real world- the real world is not as demanding.

Comment:

Reinard teaches only to the top 5-10% of the class. If you aren't up there with the pack, give up and take a different professor for this course. It's tough enough without a bad professor. Dr Reinard is great personally, I like him. But he really should be restricted to teaching honors courses only. No help, bad directions, no questons.
