Comment:

John is a brilliant and helpful professor. He is also extremely warm and friendly. The best choral director I've ever worked with! My one issue is keeping up with his fast pace, but he is very accommodating if you ask him for extra help! He has even given me private musicianship lessons weekly to help get me up to speed. Take a class with John!

John is very sweet, but sometimes I take issue with the way he structures his rehearsals. I have felt unprepared for concerts on certain pieces, which might be everyone's fault, but I think that rehearsals could have been executed in a more efficient manner.

His Aural Skills class was very hard. Somehow I managed an A-, but I was very frustrated and upset after most tests. I felt the expectations were too high. Overall though, John was very nice and helpful.

He may be somewhat flaky, but this is because he understand music and creativity, not scheduling. The thing to do is not expect him to be a machine, but to watch the artistry and glean what you can, follow those threads. I learned a ton. His value is between the words. What he misses, you can read later, the fuzzy stuff he intimates is invaluable.

John is a nice guy, but man is he flaky. His heart is in the right place, and he knows his stuff about music, though, so he's got that going for him. Unfortunately, he's very favoritist. He will offer to hold auditions for solos, and many people will try out, and the same guy or girl will always get it. That's frustrating.

John is flaky, I'll admit that. But his passion for music is inspiring. He's a great director, and a wonderfully nice man, always willing to help. It also doesn't hurt that he's one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen.

John's a fantastic choir director and a great musician, but a complete flake, always fumbling around, and never seems truly comfortable in front of the classroom (only in front of the choir). If you're going to take a course from him, be prepared to be frustrated by his disorganization, even as you're wowed by his musicianship.
