I had a Saturday field geophysics class with Dr. Sexton. He is by far a entirely different professor when it comes to field courses and lectures. I have never learned about the materials and applied side of geology from any other class than I have with his class. We handled magnetic readings, and worked with GYMSYS and many other modeling programs!

He's very dry, and you'll probably want to sit in the front. He speaks really, really soft, but every once in a while he adds his super sarcastic humor into the mix. the extra credit will save your grade and the tests are nearly impossible. when i say read the book three times..i mean six times. if you go to his office hours hes pretty helpful.

Nothing he tests on is in the lecture, and most of it the most obscure things mentioned in the text, if it's mentioned at all. He speaks softly and flatly with no excitement what's so ever. He makes Geology major hate geology.

I took this course in 2011 and it was an extremely tough course but his class is the reason I went into Geology. Read the book, every chapter, more than once.. He will likely tell you to do this and he is not kidding, the book is vital to passing. He is an extremely intelligent man and do not be afraid to ask for help.

The class is tough,dry,boring. His final examtests are written in the context only graduate students could understand. One test I got a 4590 that curved to a B! He lectured sometimes to "Read each chapter 3 times." I literally ignored his lectures, read the book during and outside of class, and got a B. Don't take it unless it is required.

To start, he is a sweet man. But he does not seem to enjoy what he is teaching. There is no fun in this class. You will have to read the chapters and mostly teach yourself if you want to pass. Tests are very hard but he curves the grades. No homework but homework is almost wanted because the tests are so hard. Not an easy teacher or class.

Dr. Sexton expects independent effort on behalf of the students. The tests are difficult, but after the first one you know what to expect. I didn't have any trouble with the class after the first test. no homework!

He is extremely boring, takes very quiet, falls behind his own schedule and he pretty much teaches nothing during class. You have to teach yourself all the material using the textbook. The tests are possibly the hardest tests I have ever taken, along with 90% of the class.

This guy is awful. He talks in a very low voice so that he can barely be heard. It's impossible to stay interested. The only reason to attend his lecture is for the extra credit points. It's a shame too, because the material itself is actually very interesting. He just cannot teach it all.
