John Stansfield is an absolute trash teacher. Doesn't give clear criteria then grades extremely hard on minor things that only he doesn't like. Can give out harsh criticism but can't receive it. Wouldn't respond to individual questions about his grading. Teaching is just not where his talents lie

John has some very good lectures, however his grading is very strict and he is not flexible on most things even in the case of an emergency. As long as you do the homework you will likely do just fine in the class.

Easy class if you show up and pay attention. He doesn't waste your time or his talking about things he won't ask about in some way or another on an exam. Go to class and do the TopHat questions, they're easy points. Overall, Stansfield is the man.

He does not explain concepts deeply enough, and he does not give enough practice problems that pertain to the actual lessons and tests. His speech is easy to understand, but he goes so quickly and does not allow any of his time to go toward individual help. He does not set students up for success in his online class. DO NOT TAKE IT.

Ok guys, If you don't like dry, sometimes crude, humor don't take him. If you do the class is a fantastic. Smart guy with a straight forward approach. Maybe not for Freshman, but by the time your a JR, SR if you can't handle his class you shouldn't be in his field. Need help? Schedule office hours and he helps. Not sure what all this fuss is about.

Haha, John Stansfield is smart but he suffers from a gigantic ego. I went off on him for grading poorly and he got so mad because eveything I said was valid but his ego couldn't take it. I still got that 5 extra points but what I learned from that experience was that Stansfield is a horrible sport, and never likes to be wrong. Bad teacher!!

He is a a very knowledgeable person, but a difficult teacher. It's hard to keep up and follow what he's doing in class. Go to the help sessions with TA's. They explain better one-to-one than Prof. Stanley did to the entire class. Some people say he's mean but that's b/c he gets a lot of lame excuses and lies from students. The class is hard.

This class is naturally difficult, but was made much more difficult by a professor that has a great degree of knowledge but a very poor teaching ability. This was also accompanied by some very poor attempts at humor and a large waste of class time.

Difficult class. Certainly expects you to know everything before you take the class. Takes little time to explain things thouroughly. Friendly to certain people, and occasionally tells bad jokes, but just overall a difficult person. People in his own department don't like him, what does that say.
