Prof. Vahaly is a super sweet guy and he really knows his stuff. I definitely recommend him, but youll definitely need to read the book heavily and study well for tests. He doesnt have much that he grades other than tests and very occasional homework, so make sure youre good with able work

You're almost guaranteed an A if you take this class. He curves the grades so hard. Tests are pretty hard and the textbook is way too expensive for the 10 homework assignments, but the grade is worth it. Find someone with old tests and you'll be fine. The lectures are very confusing so this isn't for the person who wants to really learn econ.

If you want to learn macro, this isn't the class for you. BUT if you want to get an A, I'd say go for it. He curves very hard. Tests are hard but there are good Quizlets out there, and if you ask him for what open responses to study he'll tell you. Even if you get C's on the tests you'll pass with an A. Cool guy.

He's a pretty good professor overall. He gets sidetracked sometimes and starts talking about some other economic concept, but he usually makes it back to the main topic. He's really great about giving extra credit if you try hard enough. He bumped me up from a C+ to a B+ at the end of the semester, so that really helped. Overall, I recommend him.

I really had no idea exactly what I was learning, but I did learn a lot. Really nice old guy who wants you to learn about Econ. Make sure to do the myecon lab homework as he likes to put questions from it straight on to the test. Also, when he asks a questions and he says for an A in the class, answer it because he might not be joking.

Dr. Vahaly is a great guy. He is very passionate about Economics and makes sure his students understand the concepts. His extensive knowledge on the subject, though, is what made the class difficult. Vahaly is so smart that I'm not sure that he knows how to teach an entry level course so the class was hard to follow. Lots of extra credit, though!

I have no clue what I learned in this class. Vahaly is extremely smart but at times it felt as though he was "too smart" to be teaching an introductory course. Tests are somewhat difficult but he gives plenty of extra credit. I had a C average on tests but did all of the extra credit and ended with an A- in the class.

Comment:
Prof. Vahaly knows a lot about economics and cares about making the students understand. Every "homework" assignment is extra credit, and you can redo each test for some additional points. He is a bit impersonal - I don't think he learned anybody's name the whole semester, but I wasn't bothered by that. Recommended.

Dr. Vahaly is incredibly knowledgeable. He wants to help your understanding of the material rather than just testing. If you do not pay attention, you will struggle. He is very dynamic, fun, and helpful; although, his lectures can be a bit disorganized at times. Phenomenal professor.

Professor is very helpful and a good teacher. Shows alot of enthusiasm for the material and has obvious knowledge of it. He wants to help you learn and succeed rather than to get a grade. Tons of extra credit after each test. Definitely take if you can

He's super adorable in that old-man sorta way. He flits about the classroom because he's so excited to be teaching. Econ doesn't come easily to me but he made it enjoyable. A big curve for sure but do the extra credit because it's easy. He gives out his spare change for answering questions in class. I have a lot of pennies now!

VERY hard to follow and understand. Runs around the classroom a lot and that tends to stress me out. Very nice. Gives essay question and answers for exams before the test. Those are worth half the score. The rest is multiple choice. Gives homework as extra credit and will take it late.

Multiple choice questions can be hard. But Professor Vahaly is very helpful anytime you need it. He is very energized every class and will answer any questions you have. Curves grade a lot. Should not get lower than a B if you give any effort at all

Vahaly is so interesting, he's like the guy off the Dos Equis commercial. I once answered a question right in his class and he paid me a kennedy half dollar. Vahaly's lectures are amazing, you'd be stupid to miss them. His tests are pretty difficult but they make you think a lot about econ and your grade will get curved some at the end. Take Vahaly

This was a ridiculously confusing class. Vahaly's lectures, while entertaining, were NOT helpful. His grading scale was completely unclear, and he was not very helpful when approached outside of class. He gives very good study guides for the tests though.

Dr. Vahaly is very energetic and exciting. You're not required to go to class but anyone who would miss his lectures is an idiot because they are great. His tests aren't too hard, but they're not total giveaways either. There's enough extra credit to get an A regardless of test performance, though.

Excellent teacher. His raw enthusiasm makes for fun and interesting classes. Reading and attendance aren't mandatory but an A is easy with semi-regular attendance and loose note-taking. Even with less than that, I managed a B+ and actually learned a lot. Grades based on 3-4 tests with many chances for extra credit.

Dr. Vahaly is insanely knowledgeable, helpful, and benevolent. He truly gives a crap. He's the best economics professor at UofL so you should totally take him, you won't regret it.
