He was not very helpful and as others have stated is incredibly set in his own opinions. I did poor in this class partly by not showing up all the time, but he still showed bias in his grading on the paper and quizzes (I had the same answers as a classmate, but he did not give me points for the answer and gave the other student points).

If you don't agree with his viewpoints he will give you a D on your paper. He is veryyy liberal and will not consider any other opinions in class. Praised the occupy movement during lectures and Marxist ideologies even though it had nothing to do with catholicism. Quiz NEARLY EVERY class that dowsnt even correspond to the reading/lectures.

I don't understand what his THEO 105 or other courses have been complaining about. Nilson is pleasant, an easy and straightforward grader, does not assign a lot, and lectures in a way that both compliments and clarifies the material. He's quick to answer anything you've got and gives tons of extra credit opportunities. I indefinitely recommend him.

If and only if your a theology major will you like him. His grading scale is completely unfair, I went to ALL the extra credit options and still got a poor grade. Even though his papers are largely opinionated, he'll mark you down points for not agreeing with him. You may like him, but personally I dreaded class.

I thought he was great! He really, in my mind, doesn't demand that much out of his students. One word of caution: you have 1 HUGE paper due at the end of the class; DON'T wait til the end of the semester to start it!

TAKE HIM! Nilson is an incredibly nice man and a more than fair grader. Although you need to be a decent writer to get good grades on the essays. Tests come directly from the readings which should also be quoted in the papers. 5 papers, 2 exams, and lots of extra-credit makes up the grading. He will work with you on your writing. He's great.

Ridiculous teacher. I'm a student who works hard and generally gets A- grades in college, but i found his grading to be absurd. He had a TA who was never in class grade half our papers and tests even though she consistently shot down our grades because she was never there. He's stubborn too. I don't recommend him at all.

I'll never understand why anyone has a single negative thing to say about him. He is truly an incredible person and professor. He loves his subject and made me love it too. Always open to helping students; realizes the subject is often complex and is willing to help students as much as they need to grasp any concept. A true gift to Loyola.

I couldn't believe that I read bad ratings about this guy. He is extremely nice and helpful. Sometimes his lectures are a little boring but he is passionate about teaching. He's usually a pretty fair grader, only once did he give me a low grade that I thought I didn't deserve (which we were given a chance to re-write). I recommend!

Just like last semester: stern when he needs to be, but generally congenial and helpful. A little hard to keep track of sometimes, but if you really listen, he says some seriously profound things. Great professor, if you're willing to work for your grade.

Prof. Nilson is a good teacher. At the beginning it was very abstract and confusing but by the midterms it became clearer and by the end I really liked the class. When we started racism it got interesting. The midterms and final are pretty easy. Study notes WELL though. The paper was a lot of work so start early but make sure to check GRAMMAR!

The class isn't the most interesting, and the book is awful, but professor nilson is great!! He is very nice and willing to help. You don't really need to read the book, he lays it out for you. Pretty easy, and when you start talking about racism it gets interesting. One of my favorite professors.

Weak theology class, text is useless and poorly written. Class discussion has very little to do with readings and he gets on horrible pointless tangents. Has 3 assignments in the class, 2 tests and a research paper, the paper has absolutely nothing to do with the class, complete waste of time and effort. Would not recommend, not interesting or fun.

Super nice guy, fun to talk to. I always thought his voice would make a good narrator's voice in a movie, so listening to him lecture is fun. Helpful if you ask for help. Sometimes he'll go on a really long, deep monologue, but if you listen, he's got a lot of valuable things to say.

Only 3 grades in his class, so if you bomb one, you might as well drop. Go to class (even though boring) and take notes. This helped on the midterm and final. For the research paper, do not wait until the last minute; he will tell you how he thinks you should improve your topic throughout the semester. Take advantage of the take home final (essay).

The mid-term is pretty easy I would recommend only studying the notes. For the final 5 page single spaced paper well thats another story. Dont plan on getting a grade above a C unless your a theo major or his best friend. Class extremely boring I slept everyday. But recommendation, only 3 assignments all year but dont expect a good grade.
