He is a nice enough guy I think. No test grade after a month. Help is very limited. The class itself is interesting if you read the book. I would take someone else if possible.

It's unfortunate that Jose teaches this class because it's one of the more important and relevant classes in the CS department. If he didn't give pop quizzes there would be no reason to go to class. Tests are terrible multiple choice questions about specific, arbitrary details, they don't actually test your understanding of the concepts.

Absolutely terrible. He takes everything EXACTLY from the book/website. He puts up the exact HTML document the publisher provides for the assignments. He doesn't even bother changing the number of the assignment to synch up with the class. The descriptions are in the first person perspective of the book's author. Good luck staying awake in class.

Lecture notes, quizzes, exams, and projects are all directly from the book. Tests are on Scantrons. Basically this guy puts as little effort into this class as possible. Ask a question and he will stand there without saying anything for 10 seconds then mumble a quasi-relevant answer. The subject is interesting though and you'll learn a lot.

Horrible teacher. Doesn't produce any of his own material. The tests are from the book, the assignments are from the book, the quizes are from the book. If you ask a question about something from the book you get a blank confused stare. Probably one of the most ineffective CS teachers are Pitt. Don't waste your time by taking his class

Puts absolutely zero effort into anything at all. Lectures, homeworks, quizzes, programming assignments, test qestions, all straight from the publisher's website (new book copy needed for access). Easy class... but why am I paying thousands of $$$ for what's basically a distance learning class with an attendance requirement?

Teaches from slides from the textbook which makes it nice to be able to refer to the book for clarification on anything in the slides... but also makes it a little more boring. Assignments were difficult at the beginning but then got easier toward the end. Overall an interesting class.
