Lectures are organized. Homework is not graded, however, quiz questions are directly from hw. He definitely prepares you for the tests, and knows his stuff in this subject. He is also a magician (a pretty decent one I might add). He can gauge how well the class is understanding, which is good because he will adjust his style to your needs.

Dr. Chavez is one of the best Professors at CSUSB. He is passionate about learning and education. He is straight forward and does give weekly quizzes (1or2?) and hw which is not collected. He is ALWAYS open for OH and is always willing to answer questions in class too. He's easy and you LEARN. (CANT BE THAT IN COLLEGE.)

Great guy, very funny. He knows how to read his class, and how to interact with his students. Gives you homework that you will see on the quizzes, and the tests are very similar to practice tests. Not a difficult class when he teaches it.

Dr Chavez goes too fast when he teaches there are quizzes every week and homework doesn't count but you have to do it in order to do good in quizzes and the exam. He gives study guide before the exams. If you want to take with him, make sure you should brush up the Combination and Permutation related stuff. He's good prof.

Beware of pop quizzes and do the homework. The quizzes are questions from the homework. The tests not so much. Study! Ask questions! Good luck!

His lectures are fantastic. Breaks problems down to very simple, understandable parts. Assigns homework as study material, but doesn't grade it. There's an exam every week, two midterms and a final. Absolutely would recommend.

Dr. Chavez teaches in terminology that the class can relate to. He's very understanding of the demands of college life, and creates a manageable though consistent workload. Expect frequent (but short) anecdotes about family or current events to break up the tedium of upper division math! By far my favorite professor at CSUSB.

Easily the best professor CSUSB has to offer. Extremely lenient grader, and his exams and quizzes are straight forward. He doesn't assign a lot of homework, but the problems take time to finish. I would recommend him for any classes you need. I wish he taught 545 and 553 more often.

Dr. Chavez lectures are from the book, word for word. His quizzes and midterms are straightforward. No tricks. If he does do a trick-ish question, he is lenient on the problem. You do need to attend class because you never know when he might quiz you. Study the homework and you should pass.

Make sure you do your homework, so Dr. Chavez can review it in class, otherwise you might fall behind. There are weekly quizzes, but he tries his best to keep it simple, much like his exams. He goes over a lot in lecture, but only the basics are asked on the exams.

You can get by without having the book, he doesn't check homework anyway. You just need to show up for class and keep looking back at your notes. He does decent work of lectures, he is entertaining enough and he will answer any questions, but you really need to show up for class if you don't plan on getting the text book.

Honestly, the best math professor I've had thus far. Explains concepts clear and concise, is very clear with all explanations. Hw assigned but not collected, quizzes are 1-2 hw problems, word for word. Quizzes every other class or so, depending on how he feels the class is doing with the material. Drops lowest quiz and grades on his own curve.

Homework is not mandatory but his quizzes are directly from the homework questions. Quizzes and tests are straight forward and easy if you pay attention in class. He's very clear and teaches what you need to know; sometimes he makes little mistakes when doing problems.
