Comment:
I took several classes with Gatica decades ago. I still don't think that I've ever had a worse professor. I got As in his courses too. What's ironic is that Gatica thinks that he's a good teacher and even professes that he's a good teacher. I'm now a professor in a technical field and to this day I consider him as an example of what NOT TO DO!

I enjoyed this class. He takes attendance every class. He goes through plenty of examples in class to help understanding. He makes quite a few silly errors in class, so students must pay attention to correct him. Exams were reasonable. Quizzes every week.

I took Calculus 2 with him and it was a very poorly run course. Tests were 6 questions and final was 10. Missing simply 1 drops your grade tremendously. Lectures were worthless, he made a tremendous amount of mistakes. Unless you get clutch on his exams DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS there are lots of better profs out there for calculus 2 at the U of I

not the worst professor ever. I personally hate calculus, had to take it for my major so I did not do well in class. Exams were hard. Failed first two even with studying and keeping up with homework. ZERO PARTIAL CREDIT. exams were 5-6 problems so 1 wrong and you drop a letter grade. asian t.a. and math lab were more helpful than him.

Bad handwriting, heavy accent, makes problems hard, exams are usually made of 5-10 problems, never ever give partial credit, never have a break during a 2-hour class! Not recommend!!!

Makes simple things hard, does not give out partial credit under any circumstances. If you're good at math, then maybe you'll get by on the book and the great TA, but if not, take someone else, the option is available at all.

Taught myself the material. Lectures do not help at all and just confuse you more. Discussion teacher taught me everything. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSORS COURSE UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF!

NOT THE BEST PROF MAKES THINGS SOUND HARDER THEN THEY ARE BUT A NICE GUY BESIDES THAT. OVERALL EASY CLASS ALL ONE NEEDS IS A GOOD T.A. KEEP UP WITH THE HOMEWORK AND GET HELP WHEN NEEDED AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE.GOING TO LECTURE ISN'T NECESSARY HE JUST CONFUSES YOU BUT GO TO DISCUSSION IT REALLY REALLY HELPS.

Useless professor. Don't bother with lecture, read the book and go to discussion, you'll have no problem. Made simple concepts much more difficult.

One of the worst teacher's i've ever had. Lecture is pointless and it's easier to teach yourself. You are assigned a ridiculous amount of problems every week that are not for credit. He has yet to respond to over 6 emails i have sent him, which i think is very unprofessional. Unless you have a good TA, the class is unnecessarily challenging.

Paying tuition does not entitle you to an A. If you have a problem with math or hard work, don't take him. If you plan to take advanced classes, DO take him...he'll get you ready.
