Comment:
Dr. Holt-Lunstad is very nice and obviously does well with research. However, that's where it stops. She is not good at teaching concepts and she spends 20 minutes (or more sometimes) on one slide because she can't just get straight to the point. Class is VERY test heavy which makes it hard when she isn't very effective at teaching the material.

I really enjoyed this class. As long as you go to class, at least skim the reading, study for the tests, and do the weekly writing assignments, you'll do fine.

Warning -- if you're a sociology major don't take this class from her. It's very psychology-based and has a micro focus. The lectures are boring & the tests take up 75% of your grade (which have trick questions). The readings are long. Holt-Lundstad herself is nice enough, but her ongoing laugh is distracting and she can't teach concepts well.

The whole class comes down to how well you do on the exams. The exams aren't easy but they are manageable. Try forming a study group to make sure you all are understanding the textbook concepts alright. Her lectures are all over the place so stick to the book.

Professor Holt-Lunstad definitely cares about her students but you really get out of this class what you put into it. Her lectures can be long and she honestly isn't the best at clarifying difficult concepts sometimes, but the material is not difficult and if you read the textbook you should have no trouble getting an A.

I enjoyed Dr. Holt-Lunstad. I have heard other reviews declaring that she goes on tangents and does not prepare well for her exams. I have not found this to be the case. It is essential (for your test grades) to both read the book and take notesrewrite your notesreview your notes in lectures. The blog submissions need to follow rubrics.

I never knew what to expect and the structure of the lectures were a bit scattered. You definitely need to know information from the book and lectures, and I really disliked how extremely minute details and studies were used for test questions.

Try to avoid her as a professor at all costs. I usually do not write things about professors, but she is honestly the worst professor I have ever had. Her tests are ridiculous and her TA is NOT helpful at all! She could careless about her students.

This class is not that difficult. Attend class, go to the reviews, and complete the study guides and you should be fine for the tests. There are a lot of easy points by doing the simple homework, and a lot of extra credit opportunities.

It's really not that hard to do well in this class. It consists of reading a chapter per week, writing little portfolio entries that apply one aspect for each chapter (these are due all together before each exam), and completing the exams. Prof. HL does not waste time with busy work, and she is friendly and enthusiastic. I highly recommend her.

Worst Psych professor I have ever had. I am almost done with my degree and I have never had a class so poorly structured - with terrible assignments that don't even help you apply the materials and tests that don't measure at all what you have learned (they just see how well you can avoid being tricked). Wouldn't recommend this class AT ALL.

Not too hard of a class but you have a lot of busy work you have to do. Homework assignments weekly which consist of writing a one-two page paper. Tests are based on lecture and reading the textbook. You have a final project at the end which is the best part of the class.

I quite enjoyed this class. I learned a lot and the class wasn't too difficult. If you read the textbook you'll be fine. I think people's main objection to her teaching styler is her reliance on slideshows, but I didn't mind them so I liked the class.

I took both psych statistics and social psych from Dr. HL and really enjoyed both. She is an enthusiastic teacher and very willing to help. She is very real and not afraid to be nerdy. She works hard to make things clear and interesting. I would definitely recommend her.

If your're interested in this subject, don't be afraid to take it from her. She can be a bit repetitive and the class really isn't that hard. Study her powerpoints and read the chapters in the book and it shouldn't be a miracle to get an A on the tests.

She's really nice, and tries really hard. She does have a tendency to dumb things down a bit too much which makes some lectures boring, but it's b/c she really wants everyone to understand. Unfortunately the tests are still hard. But overall the class is really interesting- I'd recommend taking it from her, esp if the TA is good (that helps a lot).

She was a nice enough professor but the lectures were terribly boring. I'm actually in her class right now and started doing this just to get some kind of mental stimulation. Her TA's reviews are helpful for tests, and actually going to the class is kind of unnecessary except to turn in your portfolios (way easy assignment). Overall, easy class.
