Comment:
Dr Gifford now teaches at UC. She is nice and approachable. The class did have too much reading and the papers were very long. It was hard to meet her word requirements. The discussions in class were engaging, but I often found that some insensitive things were said. She once remarked that India would start WWIII in front of an Indian student...

i used this site when i chose to take her class, dont think she is as helpful/easy as everyone made he rout to be. ALOT OF reading that we had to do, i did decent on everything though, did all the work B in the class. it drives me crazy whenever she said anythgn with "wh" she would pronounce the H first. OMG trust me it gets annoying- the Hwheel

extremely passionate about buddhism- one of the funniest/weirdest/nicest teachers at miami. work isn't too bad minus a fair amount of reading- only midterm and exam and a paper. buddhism in general is confusing but she does pretty well to reiterate the material to most kids who don't know anything about the religion

I love this professor! She's so much fun in class and although the material can be a little challenging and unclear, she is there to help you with ANY questions you might have. Her exams are essay and short answer so be prepared when you go in there! You have to read the book otherwise you will be lost. Lectures are interesting. Go to class!

She makes no sense when she talks, it's all religious/philosophical babble. Once she asked me something and I didn't even realize it was a question. This class made me lose all interest in Buddhism after about a week. However I got a good grade in it by bs-ing every assignment and the tests.

She's really nice! the subject matter is kind of dry, more so than the other sections. The readings are pretty important and have a lot of information.

Dr. Gifford is my favorite professor. She made class fun every day. Some of the reading was difficult but she was great at helping us understand. She is extremely intelligent and provides an amazing conversation if you ever happen to see her outside of class. Take every class that she teaches!

Personable and intelligent: the recipe for a memorable professor. Her enthusiasm injected already-interesting material with a real understanding that she passionately cares about what she teaches. One of my favorite professors.

Really excited about Buddhism. She tries to make it interesting, and yes her tries at humor are pretty sad, but at least she tries. Textbook was easy to understand and exam wasn't hard either.

She was so boring. She treated us like babies. If you want a lame but easy class take REL 101 with her. She's a joke of a professor and her pathetic excuses for lectures insulted my intelligence. She's not worth your time.

She is incredibly boring. She cracks stupid jokes all the time and over-explains everything. The work isn't terribly hard and the class has potential for being interesting, but it's a very boring class because of her awful lecturing.

Very friendly and tries to be funny to make the class interesting. Seems like a hippy! A lot of reading for the class, but not too bad. Exams are pretty easy usually with matching definitions and short essay questions about a book you read. Gives a lot of opportunity for grade points, but no extra credit at all!

There is a lot of reading, but its integral to the class so manageable. Out of all my teachers she has given the best feedback for essays, my papers have progressed leaps and bounds because of this class

Helpful . . . but the class was defnitely one of my hardest. There is a lot of reading and a LOT to remember for tests. She's nice at least, and understanding if you have health problems (although you're screwed if you have ADD).
