Hawker is the best teacher I have had at SJSU. Sweet and always willing to help! To get the best grade, have her look over outlines and papers. 2 papers (basically just answering questions), 3 speeches, take home midterm, and do the optional debate tournament. Easy and you get 100% if you do it. Great teacher! Love her!

If you plan on taking COMM 40, you definitely must take it with Professor Hawker. Although I hate speaking in public, it was no problem for me in her class. She tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Class consists of 3 debates, 1 paper, 1 midterm, and she gives you the option to skip the final if you participate in intramural debate.

I really like how she made this class more about the learning and overall experience of public speaking rather than the grade. It's damn near impossible to fail this class and she knows it. The few times I showed up to class it was alright. I literally had my goal to get a C in this class and ended up with a b lol. Easy A.

I thought I'd hate public speaking, but she made the class soo fun. You get pretty comfortable around your classmates and then debating becomes a breeze. There's not a final in this class, only an intramural debate at the end of the year and if you show up (doesn't matter if you win or lose), you get an A. Super easy and fun class.

Professor Hawker changed my perspective on public speaking. I use to be afraid of public speaking but by the end of her class, I was excited to get up in front of the class to speak. She really cares for her students and she knows a lot about argumentation. I definitely would recommend this professor.

She's great! The speeches are what most of your grade is based on, but she is always happy to help you with those if you ask. She wants her students to do good. The class is pretty simple and straight forward. Do your part and you will get a good grade. Few assignments in the beginning, but they're pretty easy. I seriously recommend her!

Although she speeds through her slides, Hawker really does want that extra time to help prep for the speeches. She takes time to make sure you are ready and can even check your outlines. As long as your open to ask for help, she will be glad to help you. Assignments were in the beginning of the semester, but other than that, focus on the speeches!!

Professor Hawker is great. She is really interested in what she does. When speaking to the class she brings up topics that relate to college students. The material is not outdated. The book is used for most of the class, we used it for reflections, essays, and a take home midterm. Debating is intimidating at first but she really helps you out.

Shes great and easy to work with. She lets you revise your speeches to improve your grade. I don't see how its possible to get anything less than a B. If you apply yourself even 50%, you'll pass with an A. Book is necessary in the beginning but you stop using it after a month. You can probably get by without it.

Super easy class. Shes really nice and lectures well. Speeches are pretty easy to complete. I usually did them the night before with no prep and got A's on them. Make sure they are within the time limit and that your outline is really good. If you dont have a good outline, you wont get a very high score.

This class is pretty easy, given that you actually put effort into all of the assignments. To my surprise, she actually did improve my debate/public speaking abilities. Also, the textbooks are almost completely useless; we never referred to them in class and didn't have any quizzes/tests.

VERY Approachable professor, and responsive to emails. Really easy class, since she's easy with deadlines. Talks a little too much, but sometimes it's interesting. Best professor ever! She was hilarious and made the class fun while learning. I learned so much from this class. Its easy to pass and she is really nice about the speeches if you get nervous. She is understanding and works with you. Easy to approach and talk to.Assignments are straight forward. She is always willing to help if you are struggling.

She's the best English teacher I've ever have. She makes the class interesting and fun. 3 papers+1 final paper+1 oral presentation. Weekly journal writing. Be prepared to share them w/ the class. Her grading is ok & very helpful & clear about what she wants. I learned a lot from her. Now, I'm more confident about my writing. Thanks to Prof. Hawker.
