Comment:
You will likely enjoy the books that Dr. Ellis chooses, but she often assigns unreasonable amounts of reading. She also hardly ever lectures, but uses student presentations to guide discussions instead. Unfortunately, the grades she gives out on assignments seem very arbitrary--she loves giving out B+s, but does not provide much feedback.

very caring professor, interesting conversations had in class. She made everyone feel comfortable enough to speak and the class had really insightful convos. But she doesn't explain assignments well at all! You have no idea what to do. Also there's a 12 page research paper. Pop quizzes are so hard very detailed

Dr. Ellis is one of those rare professors who shows how much she actually cares about the work she does. She's very invested in her students. If you show effort in the beginning of the semester and participate consistently in each class, she will give you better individualized feedback. Overall a very great person and professor.

I took her class back in 1998, when it was her first year at Loyola. It was very interesting and I learned a lot. The books we read were great books. I took two classes by her, and she was one of the best teachers I ever had.

Juniper is such a sweet teacher & really does want the best for her students. Her class is challenging but not difficult to succeed in if you work for the grade you want and participate each class. Participation/reading is key to doing well and passing. I highly recommend taking her class!

Dr. Ellis is a sweetheart but her quizzes are ridiculous and you have to read a book a class. The entire class is built on student presentations so if you do not like to talk by yourself for 75 minutes, this class probably is not for you. The 12 page paper, which does not serve as an alternative for an in class final was not bad.

Probably have never finished a novel assigned to me in my entire college career, but Dr. Ellis actually made me interested enough to read everything she assigned. Her discussions were thought-provoking, but quizzes were tough. Participation is huge so raise your hand and do the readings and you will be fine.

Basically a book a class. All authors are American, focusing on racial issues - where is the diversity. Quizzes are unreasonably tough. The "final" paper (12 pages min) does not count as the final and not everyone else has to take it. Opinions other than agreeing to hers are not welcome and almost even frowned upon. If possible, take anyone else.

She wears a track suit to class everyday (rain, shine, hail, or snow) & smiles at you throughout class even though she probably doesnt like you (that will reflect in her grading). She will give you a C on a paper and write "great ideas!") Does not add any commentary on any paperstests so deciphering her grading strategy is NOT POSSIBLE-DONT TAKE!

Dr. Ellis is very nice. Other then her being nice this class BLOWS!! First off she'll tell you everyone has to do the 12 page paper you have to do for a final paper (not the final) which is a complete lie. Her pop quizzes are way too tough and go into depth about what your reading. She doesn't teach at all and has a different student do the lecture

Dr. June Ellis is by far the best teacher I have had at Loyola. I would go so far as to say you cannot graduate without having taken her. I never had an uninteresting class with her, ever. She made going to class worth while. She is so helpful, understanding, and though she is hard, she wants you to get a good grade so go see her! Please take her!

Dr. Ellis is a great teacher! She may seem like a hard grader (like the post below, be prepared for some B+'s), but if you go to her she WILL clarify things for you. I wasn't too psyched about this class, but looking back the discussions are pretty amazing. Pretty easy work-wise (the longest paper you write is 3 pages). Take her!

Sweetest woman there is. If you are content with a B+ on literally every single paper, then take her. She doesn't offer any constructive criticism so it's hard to improve.

Dr. Ellis is amazing! She conducts her classes with intense discussions that suddenly make everything so easy to understand! Not too many novels to read, she focuses more on poetry and understanding its underlying meanings. 3 papers, a midterm and a final. Would highly reccomend, I would consider her my best professor yet at Loyola!

She is absolutley amazing. She is one of the best teacher I have ever had. The books aren't always the most interesting to read, but then you get in class with her and the discussions are amazing, and suddenly the books become amazing too! If you just do the readings, work hard, and go to her when you need help you'll do well! I highly recommend!

Ellis is always respectful of her students and their opinions. She structures her classes so that participation is key. The works are never too difficult to understand but provide for interesting and sometimes controversial conversation. She is always happy to help you understand or to congratulate on work well done. She is tough on papers.
