Comment:

I had studied up on sociology before starting the class and still got a low grade overall. His grading is very unclear, rarely answers emails, and is lecture heavy. He doesn't wanna see phones out at all and rarely gives breaks for a three hour class. I regret taking this class and there are better professor choices for Soc. He is interesting tho.

AMAZING! PHENOMENAL! BEST PROF EVER & I'M A SPARTAN GRAD!!! Dr. Harvell is the Sociological Green Lantern. A super hero - Justice Society of America Prof. TRUTH! Even the syllabus was interesting the very first day of class for the entire class. Dr. Harvell is SO passionate about scholarship & students. He's a True Hawk. #supersociology #amazing

The exams are a joke, they're super hard, questions are spelled wrong and many of the questions are about things we never learned. I have taken many classes at HFC and this one was god awful. Lectures are confusing, assignment criteria isn't clear, and the professor doesn't reply to emails. IF YOU WANT GOOD GRADES, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

You will have to do a lot of reading. The material isn't difficult but he is a really tough grader and he doesn't explain or gives you feedback on what you did wrong. The quiz's and tests have a lot of question and some question have nothing related to the lectures or book. Be aware of what your going to get yourself into i would never take him.

YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK. I appreciated that he went in depth with his lectures and focused on real world problems that students could relate to such as racism, sexism, and xenophobia. PLEASE READ THE TEXTBOOK. He is a very good teacher in terms of lecture but I hated the open book quizzes and surprisingly I did better on exams.

I was scared at the beginning and I thought that I will take a B but I paid attention to his lecture and read all of the information that's in the book so I started doing well and got an A. BEST PROFESSOR.

Harvell is a great professor. I have his SOC class online. He is very helpful, he gives great feedback, and he takes the time to answer all questions. I am still in his course, I have 100%. Easy class just a lot of reading.

Dr. Harvell is one of the best teachers I have had going to HFC. Hes very clear and knowledgeable about his topics. He uses a online book so that saves money. Very very little HW. He is lecture heavy(3hr class)but he kept it interesting and. He always had time to answer questions and made sure everyone understood before moving ahead. TAKE HIM!!

Omen of the worst professors Ive ever taken. NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR. lost my test 2 weeks after I took it and wanted to see how he grades ammunition essay portion. Will not change my grade on a test that he said he will change & I am having to re take the class AGAIN... Doesnt respond to emails frequently. I wish I never taken his class

He's a really amazing teacher. Super funny and entertaining, VERY woke and aware of the things that go on in the world. Uses real life examples so we can understand easier. And we didn't need to pay for a textbook, he was able to find a free one for us online. I'd take his classes over and over again

He is very knowledgeable on the subject however he can be hard to follow at times. He did not follow the course calendar. You are going to be graded on your tests. The tests are very hard if you do not read. PARTICIPATION MATTERS! Go see him during office hours for extra help and he will reward you with points... Literally the only way I got a C!
