Have to do the reading for each class and makes you chime in online for attendance. She grades on participation a lot, but just going to class isn't enough, you have to talk during class in order to get a good grade. Doesn't really lecture much, mainly provides ideas and discussion question to discuss with your neighbor and the entire class.

Very respectable Professor. She is highly educated in her field of study. Very particular about her grading but once you figure it out you should be fine so long as you show up to class and participate in discussion.

The worst experience with a professor. She is unreasonable and demands you think her way while simultaneously assigning readings that preach about fostering knowledge through multiple perspectives. If every class assigned her workload, completing all classes with an A would be impossible. The readings were mind opening, but she ruined it for me.

Yeah, lots of reading but come with 3 key points from each reading and your fine. no test or quizzes...just discussion and group discussion. easy to get by as long as you say something intelligent every now and then. stay on top of your writing if u have a report though

One of my favorite profs at LMU. at first I felt really lost in her class but I ended up learning the most I have in virtually any class. She works hard to help you make connections and draw out important and recurring concepts. She is also a phenomenal editor. Definitely take advantage of her office hours. Very passionate about her subject matter

20% given to attendance, mid-term, short essay, 2 response papers, and final. Requires reading for each class. I find her moderately condescending in the way she addresses undergraduates. The class was more work than I anticipated. Agree with her or you'll find she argues with you. Unless you're very interested in CHST I wouldn't take the class.

very difficult but very good, highlights major points in the ethnic struggles in the US. I don't think she went on about "Black" stuff but rather she recognized issues that are not discussed in education otherwise. She expects the best on her papers and if u give it that much attention you will do well. She is the type of professor LMU needs more o

she is kinda crazy. you have to think her way. in the papers just say what you know know she will want to hear. hard at first then gets easier, not all the reading is necessary. defiantly picks favorites. she likes participation.

wow were to begin. i would have to say that this teacher is absolutly ridiculous. she plays favorites so if she doesnt like you get ready to get bellow a B in the class. really hard grader and if you dont agree with what she says forget about it. i wanted to withdraw from the class but it was too late. do yourself a huge favor and dont take her

I really enjoy her although she seems to be over qualified for the core/gen-ed classes. You have to make sure to engage yourself to get a good grade. Obviously shes going to have her bias because of her educational focus she has had in the past, but it doesn't mean you can't learn a lot from the class itself.

she is the first and only professor that has made me feel like i can go to grad school. she is awesome and challenging. wont be an easy A, but it will be a FUN A. she doesn't beat around the bush and tells you what you don't wanna hear, but is always true. give her a chance, she's my favorite teacher at LMU so far !!

Dr. Davalos is very knowledgeable of the material she teaches and strives to offer her students greater post-undergraduate opportunities by encouraging them to continue their studies in graduate school. If not for her support, office hours and care for teaching, my senior year would've become a problem.

As a senior I expected the class to be hard but not that hard. She is a brilliant woman and if I had taken this class in my freshman year, I would've been better prepared for the last three years. She took a genuine interest in me and has helped me plan out my post-graduate plans. She only wants to see her students succeed at lmu and beyond.

yes she's opinionated and challenging, but this was the first class i've taken at LMU in which i actually felt like i was in college and not still in high school. people just expect chicano studies to be an easy subject and an easy A, and that's why everyone is dissappointed when taking her class, cause she actually makes us work. take her class =)

this class is very interesting and easy. i learned alot and hardly ever did the reading. all you have to do is participate in the discussions and you'll do well. she is a very nice professor, even though she may seem arrogant at times. if you talk to her and get to know her on a personal level, she is very helpful and sweet.
