Don't take her ! I'm a good student and I struggled. She is not a very personal person. Looks as if she's awkward in front of the class. Lots of grammar, hard grader, and very boring material choices. Not very clear on research paper requirements.

This proffesor is the worst proffesor i have had for tghe last four years. Not understanding and does not grade fairly. She is really biased and she lets that affect grading she puts her opinion about you in order to grade you. This teacher is the worst professor. SHe is extremely hard to get an A in. She grades her students based on her own opinions you are never right. SHe always finds stuff in the essays in order to give you a C. She lowers your grade because no one is good enough for an A in her class. SHe lowers ur grade and will not fix it if she is wrong.

She has spent way too much time teaching the same material for years, and has managed to find "symbolism" in pieces of writing of which there is none. - i.e. "Our main character takes a drink of water because it symbolizes the perils during his journey, and his unquestioning faith in god" / when in reality, he drinks because he is thirsty.

Not understanding the low ratings for this professor. She grades fairly, tells you the assignments that are due way in advance, and always allows you to rewrite essays- doesn't get any easier than that! Advice: come to class, be on time, and spend quality time on the essays.

Hard grading teacher. Her essays are difficult to get a good grade on but the tests are easy. She has homework assigned for almost every day and if you miss a class you'll get backed up with her assignments. The research essay was easy but still tough on the grade. If you're good at following directions she's not bad but hard for most students!!

It's her way or nothing, but the funny thing is, you can always re-write essays, but even when you re-write them, there's STILL gunna be something wrong keeping her from giving you an A! It's so rediculous! --but the number of essays is no different..

she's ok. you have 2 hand somethin in every class though! tests are easy as long as you study you notes. shes very narrow when it comes 2 esays though. she knows exactly what SHE wants and wont differ from it. shes kinda crazy in class when acting out what we're going over. all-in-all shes ok but its a lot of homework for little credit.

This is a Gordon Rule class which requires 6000 words, she will make you write 7 essays, the first, the research essay, was the biggest (1200 words) but it gets done and out of the way. Do not make MLA mistakes. She is fair but expects you to do what is assigned. Very helpful if you ask and she makes it interesting by dressing the part.

You write a TON in this class. She can be somewhat "high school" at times, but overall a very good teacher. To get a good grade in the class just do all of the essays. DO NOT mess up the research paper..she is very big on mla format and plagerism. Overall a very good teacher and nice lady. I would reccomend her to anyone at the West Campus.

You write A LOT of essays in this class. The comments about her marking you off because she has a different point of view or just doesn't understand a basic concepts are right though. She does let her personal feelings get in the way of grading at times. The research paper is a pain in the butt to write and she's strict about MLA & plagarism.

I used to enjoy English until I got this professor. Mrs. Smith discouraged me when I challenged her with creative writing. I made an imagery foretell, and she circled it going "what's this?" and marked me off because she apparently did not get it. If you're very basic with writing take the class, it's not good for creative writers however.

an incredible teacher! a little high school at times but then again, so is valencia. but all and all kay smith is an amazing professor and i would recommend her not only for Freshman Comp. 1 but 2 as well.
