You have to take him. And he's fun, funny, and super interesting. The papers aren't bad at all (nothing like what I've had to do in other LITT courses). The reading is what's brutal. A play a week.

This professor is profoundly interesting. He is life changing insightful and worth every moment of attention. The kind of man that shows wisdom and/or humor in every interaction. I feel fortunate to have taken someone so fascinating.

I cried on the last day of class because I was going to miss him and his lectures. If you're interested in the subject (or literature at all), he is absolutely fascinating to listen to. A brilliant professor and a kind, caring person. Stockton and its students are lucky to have him.

I'm currently working on a screenplay about an arrogant, cantankerous, impolite professor who routinely abuses his power and a working class genius who ends up sleeping with one of his girls. I'm calling it "Bad Ken Tompkins."

He was one of my favorites. Doesn't want to hear excuses, but is very understanding at the same time. One of the smartest people I have ever met, and is interested in his students outside the classroom. Would always talk to him during the break.

Shakespeare. He believes that rereading the text aloud is teaching. He only assigns 3 papers, but it takes him MONTHS to return them. When you finally get your paper, it has no constructive criticism, just a grade. I WAS graduating w/a 4.0 until I took this class. I'm unsure what's worse- my ruined GPA or listening to him speak the last few months.

The best professor I've ever had. I found his lectures to be extremely interesting and looked forward to going to class every day. The reading selections and the topics discussed in class were intellectually stimulating and challenging. I had a wonderful experience in Pr. Tompkins class and look forward to being his student again in the future.

He is really is a brilliant man who knows a lot about literature. He is very helpful; students can go to him anytime for help. He is great at getting back to you with answers to questions. I've taken him many times before.

Prof Tompkins was the absolute best. Even though I consistently got Bs in his class, he taught me how to write, think, and analyze. I am a teacher now and continue to quote his famous lectures. "BUT AHH! THE SICKLE!"

I wouldn't say he's an easy A because he does want specific things in his essays, but if you go to class and can write with some skill you should be able to get at least a B. As for lectures, it depends on the class, but I love them...if the class is rowdy its a lot more fun. Definitely don't believe the myths about this guy. As long as your talk in class and are prepared you'll do fine.

Professor Thompkins is super hard. Papers have to be excellent for you to get an A. He is a brilliant man. You can learn a lot from his lectures so go to class. Don't ever complain to him, he won't want to hear it.

I love this prof, and I HATE Chaucer. He made it bearable. He expects a lot from papers, and it's helpful to have outside knowledge, not a prof to take if you're not a litt major. Also, at least in Chaucer, seemed really focused on sex.

Arrogant, cold, big ego. Like previous student comment, my first B, that hurt because I did not want to miss class even if I was sick. I did much good work on a final big paper but only received a B+ -- NO comments on the paper- not one. Also I believe that he does not like older students, might be that they already know a few things

He was the first teacher to ever give me a B. I wokred my ass off and it didn't matter. I would ask for help and he wouldn't help. He's really not that great. He's passionate about what he teaches; however, he's not a passionat teacher. He is not very good at teaching at all actually. He should teach more and stop fillling his own ego less.
